IWS #143 - Results

I could have done better with the questions, but sometimes you get Citizen Kane - sometimes you get Basic Instinct 2. On with the results!

1. Name a movie that starred Tom Cruise.
Top Gun - 26
Mission Impossible - 2
Jerry McGuire - 2
Losin It - 1

Bad question. I knew that Top Gun would probably get a bunch of votes, but jeez! This was a runaway.

2. Name your favorite animated movie of all time.
Shrek - 8
Toy Story - 7
The Incredibles - 5
The Lion King - 2
The Secret of Nimh - 1
Transformers: The Movie - 1
Bambi - 1
Pinoccio - 1
The Hobbit - 1
South Park - 1
The Dark Crystal - 1
Osmosis Jones - 1

A nice spread of answers here, but if you didn't pick a computer animated movie you were SOL. A couple of interesting responses. Dark Crystal? Was that even animated? And what the hell is Osmosis Jones? It's a bad sign in IWS to get a response that you've never even heard of before.

3. Name a great movie villain.
Darth Vader - 20
Hannibal Lecter - 3
The Joker - 3
Lex Luther - 2
Nomolos - 1
Kurgan - 1
The Terminator - 1

Another runaway. I really thought this would be a 2 horse race between Vader and Lecter. I guess I didn't judge my audience well enough to know that Vader would be such an overwhelming choice. Who the hell are Kurgan and Nomolos?

4. Name a movie with a great soundtrack.
Star Wars - 6
Pulp Fiction - 3
Saturday Night Fever - 3
The Crow - 2
Top Gun - 2
Tron - 1
Dirty Dancing - 1
The Sound of Music - 1
The Lost Boys - 1
The Bodyguard - 1
American Pie - 1
The Big Chill - 1
The Breakfast Club - 1
Footloose - 1
Garden State - 1
Forrest Gump - 1
The Matrix - 1
A Hard Day's Night - 1
Lord of the Rings - 1

This was all over the map with Star Wars winning in large part due to the "Vader" question preceding it. A couple of interesting responses: The Bodyguard, The Sound of Music, Dirty Dancing. Hehe. Not that I'm judging anyone here!

5. Name a movie filmed in black and white.
Casablanca - 13
Clerks - 4
Schindler's List - 3
Citizen Kane - 3
It's a Wonderful Life - 2
Scotch - 1
Sin City - 1
Gone with the Wind - 1
Raging Bull - 1
The Wizard of Oz - 1

Nice to see my favorite movie of all time get some love. Casablanca takes the category - pretty easily.

6. Name a movie that starred members of the Rat Pack, Brat Pack, or Frat Pack.
Breakfast Club - 18
Ocean's 11 - 4
St. Elmo's Fire - 3
Old School - 2
Movin in with Nancy - 1
Sixteen Candles - 1
Manchurian Candidate - 1
Pretty in Pink - 1

I liked this question and figured there was a clear winner for each of the 3 groups. Rat Pack - Ocean's 11, Brat Pack - Breakfast Club, and Frat Pack - Old School. I really expected it to come down to Old School and Breakfast Club, but I guess we're all such children of the 80s that Breakfast Club was too big an influence to ignore.

And now, for the standings (drum-roll please)...

PackerFanatic 08-17-2006 09:04 AM

Yeah I knew it...I should have gotten a couple and should have NOT gone with my gut, oh well, nice job sabotai!

spleen1015 08-17-2006 09:11 AM

I can't believe I forgot about The Breakfast Club. This contest is biased against folks named after organs.

gottimd 08-17-2006 09:13 AM

Kurgan is from the Highlander and Nomolos is from Bill and Teds Bogus Journey.

gottimd 08-17-2006 09:15 AM

Oh so close for me...

it's an honor just to be nominated.

Butter 08-17-2006 09:30 AM

I think someone was not really trying there. Seriously, Losin' It and Osmosis Jones?

I didn't put Osmosis Jones. But I also would like to point out how tough it is to find stuff that you know no one will answer. Eventhough that is the other game, I forgot what it is called, basically the exact opposite of IWS.

MIJB#19 08-17-2006 09:34 AM

Noooo! Chocked with the last question...

As long as you own up to not really trying... I'm all for some comic relief.

I'll Cowboy Up to my "not really trying". Although it did take me some time research stuff on IMDB to get my answers.

Lathum 08-17-2006 10:31 AM

I'm surprised with this crowd Southpark didn't get more animated movie votes.

Raven Hawk 08-17-2006 10:50 AM

I've been teh suk on these lately.

I thought there would have been a little love for The Hobbit as an animated movie on this forum. D'oh well.

Desnudo 08-17-2006 11:00 AM

There was, yours.

JeeberD 08-17-2006 11:33 AM

Bleh. Kicked ass the first three questions, sucked balls the final three...

korme 08-17-2006 01:05 PM

Surprised at how bad I did- thought Jerry maguire and Top Gun would be neck-and-neck.

Anyways, cool that Casablanca won the black/white category, I finally watched it for the first time 2 days ago.

Coffee Warlord 08-17-2006 01:49 PM

Movie Villian KILLED me.

kingfc22 08-17-2006 07:56 PM

Star Wars never crossed my mind on question 3 or 4. :(

Coder 08-18-2006 10:14 AM

I feel dirty.. so yeah, I picked Osmosis Jones.. :( I haven't watched an animated movie in years but stumbled on to Osmosis Jones on a movie-channel a few years ago and it was the only one I remembered.

And I picked Lord of the Rings for the soundtrack..

MIJB#19 08-25-2006 09:08 AM

I looked again and again and again, but my answer to question six couldn't keep sabotai from winning.

saldana 08-25-2006 05:33 PM

son of a bitch!!! after i sent in my answers i thought about asking to change from st elmo's fire to the breakfast club, but never got around to the pm....i would have kicked sabotai's ASS....seeing as i had all the other top picks.

saldana 08-25-2006 05:35 PM

dola, i wanna know who the hell voted dirty dancing for the soundtrack category.
