A child, no less. You'd think if it were an underaged girl (in her teens perhaps) they'd word it that way, but they say child and that, to me, is very disturbing. Let's hope this isn't true ...

You'd think, but I've seen people use "child" to describe someone under 21 before, especially when it's someone trying to evoke a strong emotional response against someone they don't like.

I read other articles that said 12 year old girls.
