FM Network Game - League Poll & New Signup

As per the last poll, the official time for these will be Sunday evenings, starting at about 8pm CST.

The vote is now exactly which league we want to play. Even if you don't care strongly any way, please vote on what you would most prefer. And, please send another post this way to confirm you still want to play, as I remember some people can't do Sunday evenings.

How does this stuff work via a network? Do you do a week at a time?

SirFozzie 08-25-2006 10:00 AM

Warhammer: Everyone connects to a central server, and it's like single player, except the game doesn't advance until everyone's ready (you can set a time out once a certain amount of folks are ready, everyone has 10 seconds to wrap up what they were doing)

Coffee Warlord 08-25-2006 10:04 AM

Hey Foz. Does all scouting/scouring for players have to be done whilst connected to the server?

Butter 08-25-2006 10:07 AM

When is the expected start date for this? And what happens if you have to miss a week?

Butter 08-25-2006 10:08 AM

Also, how does watching the games work?

Butter 08-25-2006 10:09 AM

Is AI any good? I can't buy if AI no good.

Sorry, I channeled the magic man there for a sec.

Your assistant manager gets the honor of managing for you. :)

Really, missing a week here and there shouldn't be that big of deal. Yeah, you might wind up with a non-ideal player starting a match, but how often do you REALLY change up things once you're set?

SirFozzie 08-25-2006 10:11 AM

Yes, scouring and all that has to be done while connected

Butter: If you have to miss a weekend, your Assistant Manager will control the team.

Butter: come game day, each coach takes care of their game normally, with coaches who don't have a game or finish their games before other coaches can watch the other games in progress.

Butter 08-25-2006 10:12 AM

I'm in.

Hmm. Wonder if I can make the save game available for download, so people can scour during downtime.

vex 08-25-2006 10:16 AM

Can you pause games? and what about match speed/highlights?

Katon 08-25-2006 10:17 AM

Count me in.

okay, this intrigues me very much. What happens when it's a human-vs-human game? Do you get to see the other team go through tactical changes and such.

Seriously, this has me really excited. Looking forward to the fun of it :)

FM

SirFozzie 08-25-2006 10:17 AM

yes you can pause and select match speed/highlites (I think.. I know you can pause to make substitutions and the like

If the other coach is making changes, the game is paused with a note "Human coach making tactical changes"

Bad idea, CW. Especially at this level, the pool will not require intensive searching, what can't be handled live can be handled by scouts. And you know how big the save games are.

Very true there. We'll see how it works out as normal.

Im a little afraid im going to get dominated, as england is the one league i never do well in, but ill sign up. Maybe in the process i can pick up some strats by watching you guys. I have a feeling im going to suck, but every league needs a bottom feeder :)

if that's what you're afraid of, I could be the one who gets his ass kicked if we go much lower than League One as I always play with a Championship team. Dealing with lower transfers and such isn't always my forte... We'll see :)

Wouldn't worry. No matter where we play, I intend to run my system. Which takes at least a full season to get the proper players in, and get them acclimated. So year 1 is gonna be uggggggly.

Scholes 08-25-2006 11:06 AM

I'm in... I've never done a network game but have always wanted to. Pretty excited about it too.

st.cronin 08-25-2006 11:20 AM

Sunday nights, I can play, firewall permitting.

Scholes 08-25-2006 11:31 AM

Oh, I forgot to ask, this is big. Can I play with WWSM??? That's the version I have.

SirFozzie 08-25-2006 11:33 AM

Yes, WWSM/FM can interact with each other.

Desnudo 08-25-2006 11:37 AM

I'll give this a go. Although it's been a while since I last played a game below the EPL. How is the team selection going to work?

I'll randomize the players and we'll have a draft.

MJ4H 08-25-2006 12:25 PM

I'm in. The early poll numbers look like League One is it (yay).

I'm confused. You mean, random players and a draft to know who gets which team or a full draft, player by player?

I just don't know what's possible with the game...

FM

Pumpy Tudors 08-25-2006 12:39 PM

I'm going to give this some really strong thought about whether I'll be playing, so I'm going to hold back my vote for a few hours. I would love to get into this, and it's just a matter of knowing about how much time we'd be spending in the game each week. Two hours? Three hours? I'm just looking for an approximation.

the old man CW seemed to be talking about a couple of hours every Sunday evening, not sure what everybody had in mind, but that's what sold me on it. 2-2.5 hours is just nice enough for me...

FM

Pumpy Tudors 08-25-2006 12:50 PM

Sounds cool. By 9pm on Sunday, I'm usually just sitting at home playing video games or watching TV anyway. I guess the only issue that might be a problem for some people is that this will be happening during Sunday Night Football on NBC. I have a TV right next to the computer, so it's no big deal for me. It's just something that occurred to me a moment ago.

yeah, but Sunday Night Football games usually sucks anyway so... ;)

Can't wait to move my computer to the basement with a TV next to it though. With the wood stove in the corner, that'll be a killer setup :)

Scholes 08-25-2006 01:05 PM

2-2.5 hours sounds great to me, and I'm not even really into the NFL. Fox Soccer Channel is where it's at. I'm confused about the draft statement as well. Are we drafting teams or players?

Katon 08-25-2006 01:35 PM

I think the way the draft works is that CW puts everyone who's playing in a random order and then, in that order, we pick which team in League One (judging from the poll) we would like to manage.

Old man CW says this is also correct. :)

Coffee Warlord 08-25-2006 03:16 PM

I'll run the randomizer for the draft order this evening. People can still sign up, but after the initial picks it'll be first come, first serve.

What I think I'm going to do is provide the initial save game file in a couple of days for people to look through. That way, people can spend a solid week (I'm busy this sunday, so start time is next week) looking through their club and prepping.

Pumpy Tudors 08-25-2006 03:41 PM

OK, sign me up, please. I wouldn't mind having something fun to do on Sunday nights.

Vinatieri for Prez 08-25-2006 04:04 PM

I am in.

Coffee Warlord 08-25-2006 05:59 PM

30 minutes till I do the "draft" order. (Which will be in a new thread)

The teams that are in League One, since it's pretty bloody obvious what the choice is, are as follows:

Barnsley
Blackpool
Bournemouth
Bradford City
Brentford
Bristol
Chesterfield
Colchester
Doncaster
Gillingham
Hartlepool
Huddersfield
MK Dons
Nottingham Forest
Oldham
Port Vale
Rotherham
Scunthorpe
Southend
Swansea
Swindon
Tranmere
Walsall
Yeovil

Neuqua 08-25-2006 06:06 PM

Real or fictional players?

SirFozzie 08-25-2006 06:06 PM

I'd really prefer real, but either I can do.
