Agassi's game going from bad to worse in the 3rd set :(

henry296 08-28-2006 10:34 PM

Not dead yet. From 0-4 down in the third set to 4 all. Might be another night with little sleep. Gotta love night matches at the Open.

kcchief19 08-28-2006 10:35 PM

He's pulling it together ... 4-4 in the third set. You can see him reaching down for it. I thought he was a goner for a few minutes there. If he can get another break in the third, I think he'll be home.

Agassi's made some mistakes, but give it up for this Pavel guy -- he's been playing a fantastic match against a crowd ready to kill him if he wins. This has probably been the match of his life.

jbmagic 08-28-2006 10:36 PM

I hate this turf.

Grass is the best for tennis.

kcchief19 08-28-2006 10:37 PM

Wow ... 5 straight games. Must be those fresh rackets!

"Turf"???

Anyways, for my money, the quality of matches at the U.S. Open & Australian open seem to be the best out there. Wimbledon is alright, but I just don't get that "pulsating" feel from the crowd and whatnot. French is great for me to watch the technical abilities of the players, and I appreciate that, but it again lacks the true entertainment of the hard court surfaces.

Brian Swartz 08-28-2006 11:42 PM

I appreciate all the majors for different reasons, but for my money the U.S. Open is the most entertaining just because of New York -- the people there go nuts even when the Americans are down like they have been since Sampras retired. Another big difference between the U.S. and Australian is that the U.S. Open just means so much more: it's the stretch run of the season and usually players are in top form, while the Australian is the beginning of the season and (usually) doesn't have the same feel because the year has just started. Players are also more rusty as it's just two weeks in after the off-season. For the best quality tennis though, there's nothing like the Masters in Shanghai. There's something truly special when every single opponent is top quality and you can't afford a bad match or even, in most cases, a bad set.

tanglewood 08-28-2006 11:59 PM

I think that in general Wimbledon produces the most exciting tennis, but I do agree that the US Open crowd add a lot to the atmosphere and enjoyment of watching. It always adds something when watching a player at their home slam with the crowd behind them, but the New York crowd just seems a bit more rowdy and louder.

Reminds me of when Jimmy Connors made a deep run several years ago in his swan song.

"JIMMY!"

"WHAAAAT??!"

:D

For those of you with DirecTV, they have some channels allocated just for the tournament :

680 - US Open Mix (a view of 6 channels on one screen)
681 - Arthur Ashe Stadium
682 - Armstrong Stadium
683 - Grandstand
684 - Court #10
685 - Court #11

rkmsuf 08-29-2006 11:08 AM

686 - Upskirt

Roddick match just came on

Brian Swartz 08-31-2006 12:40 AM

Nalbandian does it again, losing the first two sets only to come back and win. I swear he simply doesn't have the capacity to do things the easy way.

sabotai 08-31-2006 12:46 AM

I'll be cheering on Blake and Agassi, of course!

And Roddick too, I suppose. :)

rkmsuf 08-31-2006 08:07 AM

I'm really developing a dislike for Sharapova.

First of all her looks are way overrated. It's probably like doing a piece of plywood.

Second she projects to be a total asshole.

Third the g-damn shrieking on the court. The best is when the Wimbleton fans starting laughing at her during a point and she stopped doing it.

amdaily 08-31-2006 07:03 PM

Hingis is being humiliated. Looks like this could be the upset of the tourney so far.

The whole cell phone thing with winning wimbleton 2 years ago was annoying. I agree with your assessment, she's probably a total bitch.

amdaily 08-31-2006 10:38 PM

Don't I feel like a dumbass calling this one for Agassi an hour ago...

sabotai 08-31-2006 11:11 PM

You shouldn't. It's not a common thing for someone to lose after winning the first two sets. But it's still not over yet.

Yeah, now I feel stupid for posting that last post ;)

Sort of...all I know for sure is that I am damn tired.

sabotai 08-31-2006 11:39 PM

HE DID IT! HOLY CRAP!

That was an unbelievable set (I was helping my brother move, so I missed most of the match. :( Was able to catch the 5th set though)

henry296 08-31-2006 11:39 PM

Great match!!!

amdaily 09-07-2006 01:37 PM

The Nadal match was a huge disappointment, makes the rest of the tourney a forgone conclusion.

rkmsuf 09-07-2006 01:39 PM

I got a hankering for more Amelie Mauresmo coverage.

I'd like to make an Upskirt Channel joke here, but I can't come up with one. :(

Good one!

amdaily 09-07-2006 10:18 PM

Wish this Federer vs. Blake match was on TV. Just saw the box score and turned on the radio coverage on usopen.org. Looks like it has been quite a game.

Buccaneer 09-07-2006 10:24 PM

With Agassi now gone, Nadal is probably my favorite player (despite gassing out). I really can't stand Federer. On the women's side, don't know or care anymore, not like I used to.

It wasn't on for you? I watched it on UniversalHD, didn't check USA.

amdaily 09-08-2006 06:06 PM

As much as I hate Sharapova, she has a great chance to win this thing. Mauresmo once again proved she is a natural loser and Henin-Hardenne doesn't have much left to put fouth in this tourney.

Going to be pulling hard for Roddick on the mens side.

Brian Swartz 09-08-2006 06:48 PM

I think Roddick will make the final, but until he improves his backhand and/or volley skills, he has to play a perfect match to challenge Federer. Still, this run will push him back into the top 5-7, and he'll at least make it back to Shanghai.

amdaily 09-10-2006 05:27 PM

Just tuned into the final. Looking better than I expected. Go Roddick!

kcchief19 09-10-2006 05:53 PM

Losing the third set's a bad break for Roddick. I can't see him pulling off two straight form Federer. Looks like Andy's definitely back in form, but Federer is just too darn good right now.

Raiders Army 09-11-2006 06:08 PM

Sharapova was looking good in that black dress.
