Sometimes I hate FOF...
 

The year is 2012. The Lions had drafted Brady Quinn with the #1 pick in the 2007 draft. In 2011, his contract year, the Lions won their first Super Bowl. I franchised Quinn, allowing Roy Williams and my excellent RT to walk. He is the best QB in the game, so I to sign him to an extension for seven years with a $40 million bonus.

Late in the third quarter of the first game of the season, Quinn is 23/27 195 yrd 2TD. He then ruptures his achilles tendon and is finished for the season.

I feel like crying.

See, I find this unrealistic.

1. The Lions will never win a Super Bowl.
2. The Lions will likely draft Troy Smith (snicker, snicker).

Tough break man...sorry to hear that to your franchise QB but, hey, this is also those "little" things that make the whole FOF Experience so great...
It's a continued story, and now your backup QB will have to step up and pick right where Brady left off, cheer up: you might find yourself the next version of Kurt Warner ;)

Back in my day, we'd wrap it in tape and send him back out there.

I hate that in later years of a career, you almost hope a guy like Quinn(with a huge contract) gets a medium injury, 10 or so games with no permanent damage, so that they will take a bit of a reduction to their insane salary. I cringe when my stars want an average annual salary of 2-3 times the franchise amount.

And man, i don't mean to threadjack, but has anyone ever actually kept a high performance star WR on your roster for an extended period of time? Dudes want about 20% of the salary cap on average.

Early on in the career, I have been able to keep a really good WR, but later on (without franchising them) you can pretty much forget it.

At first I thought the AI drafted a QB as the first pick. ;)

It happens to me too. I usually keep 'em for the 4 or 5 years of their rookie contract, and then, gone! They request INSANE amounts of money, really. The ones that I stick with are always the UDFA guys, or mid-50s guys.

And promptly convert him to WR.

Houston drafted Smith. I actually felt bad for Houston... A couple seasons after drafting Smith, Carr blew his knee out and smith played well. The next season Carr was still out for the season (with his contract up at the end of the season.) Smith was to start, but was sustended for being in a bar fight! (continuing a fine tradition from tosu!) :D



Not exactly. My backup (JaMarcus Russell) imploded. We won the first four games, but he was awful. When we lost two straight, I did a careful study of the scrubs available in FA... Joey Harrington? Hell naw! I found a guy who can read a defense pretty well and sense the rush very well. He looks like he'll be a mentor in a couple years (not that it really matters, as Quinn already is one) In three starts for the Colts his rookie year he threw 6 td's and only one pick, 65.7% complete. So far, in two starts he has 3 td's, no picks and 65.4% complete... Maybe I found a QB after all! :D

is there some way to work around this problem? because it drives me insane and kills a bunch of my enjoyment. and while not UNREALISTIC it's also not quite REALISTIC.

or maybe I just don't pay as much attention to NFL FA $-figures as I should.

Naa... It's perfectly realistic for a player to request more money than the Vatican pulls in every year, only to sign a one year contract for the minimum with another team! ;)
