Computer help: What do i need?

Before I start, I'm letting you know I KNOW NOTHING AT ALL ABOUT COMPUTERS. My problem is this - I have a semi-new computer, about 2-3 yrs old, and I am just now starting to play the latest version of OOTP. It's not that I cant play it, but it takes longer than what I would like to simulate through a season. Do I need more RAM or memory or whatever the hel lit is to change this, or do is there nothing I can do about this?

To be fair, 2 - 3 years old, especially in these days, isn't semi-new. That is getting to be on the older edge. A rundown of the specs of your computer would be nice, mainly processor speed and amount of RAM (which can be found in Control Panel > System) It sounds like it could be a RAM issue, or you just have too many processes running and it can't handle OOTP at that moment.

Here is what I found in that Systems menu thing, it says 2.52 GHz, 256 MB or RAM. Like you said, i'm assuming that is pretty outdated these days, my point was really that I have never had a problem before with the speed of anything on this computer until now. Whether it was an older version of OOTP or FOF, everything ran at a reasonable speed.

You need RAM for sure. 256MB is very small by today's standards.

isn'T the latest version of OOTP the first one releaed with SI Games? if so, we're not talking about the same kind of beast as FOF right there and 256mb is really stretching it out.

While 2-3 years old is indeed not nearly new, your processor is decent. I run FM2006 on a 1.67GHz AMD Athlon, but I upgraded my memory first from 256 to 512, then up to 1GB and this has made a world of difference...

I don't have the latest version of OOTP but perhaps there is a lot going on during the sim process and simming will just take longer. That said, Router Help is right -- more ram for sure, especially if you are running Windows XP. Hell, the O/S takes up about 240 megs.

The other thing that you can do is make sure that you've done all of the routine maintenance -- spyware checks and defragging of your drives. There would be other things that you could do but they would be of an advanced nature like using MSConfig to alter what programs get loaded at bootup, and shutting off unecessary services.

You might want to go to www.tweakguides.com and download their free guide. It's really good. While some of it may be advanced for a beginner there's a lot of good info in there.

256? Whoa! Get that baby up to 1Gig and you'll see a huge improvement.

Thats what i've been told, so thats what im gonna do. I tried pricing them up today, is a little over $100 sound reasonable for 1Gig?
