I don't know, maybe the faq will help you.

Quote:

I licensed the game, and then when I click on the installed game, and nothing happens. What can I do?

There are many reasons this can happen, and it's usually XP and a problematic installation of the operating system.

Here are some notes about this type of problem. Each note offers a separate potential solution to this problem:

* First, you should try rebooting the computer. This often gets it out of a bad state where certain types of native Windows applications just can't run. This solves the problem about 50% of the time.

* Next, the electronic licensing may be disabled. Go to the run command off of the Start menu and enter msconfig. Go to the Services tab and make sure the LicCtrl Service is checked. Reboot your computer afterwards.

* If that doesn't work, executable files may not be properly linked to running programs. That can be the result of adware or a virus. Make sure nothing else is running. Virus checkers can interfere, as can some of the nastier adware out there that chew up system resources.

* You can try running the program directly. Go to the start button, then select the run command. Browse to look for the FrFoot2004 program directly.

* Go to Control Panel->Administrative Services->Services. Make sure Cryptographic Services are turned on. This probably isn't the problem, but it's definitely the easiest fix if it works.

* Always be careful with third-party sites (you'll want to virus-scan this before using it). Go to Doug's Windows Tweaks and Tips. Select Win XP Fixes. Scroll down the left column to File Association Fixes. Click on it and from the menu select "EXE File Association Fix" and download.

* Put in your XP installation disk (if you don't have one, call the manufacturer of the computer and ask what to do). Go to the run command off of the Start menu. Type in D:\i386\winnt32.exe, where D is your cd-rom drive.

Deetkills 10-30-2006 11:18 PM

did it all...install/reinstall/ reboot/ checked FAQ/ checked msconfig/ checked elicense

I'm up a creek, this blows...

Peregrine 10-30-2006 11:34 PM

You're using XP right? Does the game work on other versions?

using XP - thing is - the game DID open for me the first few times I tried - but - I accidentally opened another f0f2k4 up, imported a universe file to one of them - and it's been down since -

seems like the problem began somewhere in there....

Peregrine 10-30-2006 11:57 PM

Hmm you might want to try uninstalling and reinstalling both games, 2K4 and 2K7, maybe the file associations got messed up somehow. You'd have to save all your saves of course.

highfiveoh 10-30-2006 11:58 PM

So you were messing with the universe files in 2007, then? Try deleting everything in your universe folder and then opening it. Everything should rebuild itself I'd think.

Deetkills 10-31-2006 12:00 AM

correction: I opened 2 f0f2k7 versions up, not a fof2k4...Should I still uninstall both?

Peregrine, thanks for your input man...

This thread is typical as to why help desks have such an awful time trying to fix people's problems and why they sometimes comes across as having such an attitude. I'm really glad I don't do that for a living, I don't think I'd have the patience.

But I love the "bumped for a pissed off customer".

Did my time on a couple of different Help Desks for about 7 years...

Yeah, I hear ya.. therefore my initial "Calm down" post...

CraigSca 10-31-2006 09:25 AM

I'm sorry, I just can't let this go....

So, he starts messing around with files, screws something up, posts on the forum, and somewhere around there says, "I'm giving this 9 minutes. If I don't get an answer in 9 minutes, I'm going balistic." Classic.

Classic indeed... I'm surprised he didn't ask for our supervisor!

What I like more is how the first post wasn't even an accurate representation of what the problem was. it was made out to be that somehow the electronic d/l was screwed up. Essentially, I bought and d/l your stupid game and I clicked and nothing happened.

Not, "I bought the game, d/l it, opened it up a couple of times, screwed with the universe folder, had an error, shut things down and now I can't open it"

Definately typical though.

"...and frigging game developper these days can't get a game out without tons of bugs and need tons of patches before the game works as it should and... oh, you mean the big universe folder? Yeah, maybe I did click a thing or two in there, wasn't I supposed to?"

I dunno. I was a tech for a long time. Even moved up to supervisor and managed 20+ call center agents.

People with this attitude are annoying, but they aren't the norm. Most people were polite, did what you asked them to do and were ok. It was the 2 or 3 jack asses a day who would act like this.

So you'd have 15 calls or so that were with nice people and a few that were with idiots. You remember the idiots more, of course, but usually it isn't quite that bad.

Now, for a year, I took nothing but "hot calls" As a hot call specialist, it can be that bad. :) No way I'd ever do that one again.

I'd agree with that.

I should say, "not uncommon"... or "typical for these kind of users"...

You left off the part about posting on the forum at 11:15pm and going nutso after no answer in 9 minutes. ;)

ROTFLMAO ? I hadn't heard anyone referred to as "Sunshine" in a long time. My father used to coach football and thats what he use to always call the cry babies all the time. Damn I got a good laugh out of that one.

I still think you're missing the main point.

I don't think that people would be on your case so much if you had provided the full explanation of what you had done about messing with the universe files.

Pumpy Tudors 10-31-2006 05:49 PM

I think we should make the man his own forum in which the posts don't count. He can bump all night if he wants to.

MizzouRah 10-31-2006 09:28 PM

Tales from IT, today around 1pm

Ticket gets called in a user can't get to an internal webpage as he always has before. I ask him on the phone, "Have you loaded any new software?"

"NO, business as usual"

Ok.. I go to his desk and I see the neato IE shortcuts which scream to me, "I'm IE 7 - check me out!!"

Uh... how did you get IE 7 on your pc?

"I don't know, I think a box popped up and I hit ok and then it installed IE 7.. I think"

I proceed to uninstall it and then basically make him wait for about an hour while I uninstall things like weather bug, some doom3 demo, and other various NON work related software. What an ass. :)

I really hate it that Verizon lets its user's have admin privileges.

Sure, and if we can help with it, let us know.

Good luck getting help with any future problems. Maybe the cows can help you when they come home.

I don't mind people who get angry when it makes sense to. I do, however, take exception to people who want the world to stop when something THEY did causes their own problems and they want people to bail them out on THEIR schedule.

While we may have a need to play nice one dy in the NFLFO, I would suggest you heed your own advice and play nice in a little thing we call society.

LOL - I was going to apologize to the board a while back as I should have provided ACCURATE info about what my problem was - but since I know so little about this stuff I didn't realize until later that me having files in the uni was important. Definately my fault there.

Anyway I can't in all good faith apologize anymore as I'm sure you all can imagine why
Instead Ill leave you with a fuck you and a kiss my ass - for good measure
