omg nooo

...for college students and homemakers.

Suburban Rhythm 11-01-2006 07:57 AM

I think his decision is proving he is senile...

"No thanks...I'll pass up 20 year old co-eds, who can't wait to get on stage, kiss me, and stick their hands in my pockets. I'd rather relax at the retirement home."

albionmoonlight 11-01-2006 07:59 AM

First President Regan dies. Then the Pope dies. Then Bob Barker retires.

It's like there is nothing left of my childhood.

On the rare occasion I have had a chance to see this show in the past 5-10 years (either sick or a holiday or something like that), I've frankly been embarrassed for the guy. At least once during each show he screws something up; can't hear a contestant's response or something and messes up the game, or just generally sounds like Harry Caray after a few. One game, they ended up giving the guy the prize and letting him spin for the Showcase because he answered one way and Bob thought he said just the opposite. He should have retired years ago, IMO.

jbmagic 11-01-2006 09:12 AM

I hope that guy that did Sale of the Century and Cardshark game shows is the replacement for the new host to The Price is Right.

If they follow recent history (Howie Mandel and Bob Saget), then I think Richard Jeni is in line to replace Bob.

SirFozzie 11-01-2006 10:19 AM

Jim Perry? He's 72. I doubt it.

rkmsuf 11-01-2006 10:22 AM

I'll vote for Oprah to take over.

"John Smith, we speak your name. Git down here!"

I would expect them to go with somebody younger than Jim Perry. Perry's about to turn 72 years old.

A year or two ago, I'd read rumors that Todd Newton (from Hollywood Showdown, Whammy!, and Powerball Instant Millionaire) was probably going to take over for Bob Barker. I think that would be great, as I find Todd Newton to be the closest person to an "old school" game show host these days. I really can't think of a better choice. No matter who they pick, I figure that a lot of the TPIR atmosphere will change, and it will look like almost a completely different show once Barker is gone. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept some things around just because Barker wanted them to stay. I can't think of anything specific, but it just wouldn't surprise me.

Richard Jeni would be better than Ryan Seacrest.

Bob Goldthwait would be better than Ryan Seacrest.

Charles Manson would be better than Ryan Seacrest.

George W. Bush would be better than Ryan Seacrest.

Please God, don't let the f-up TPIR with some overstylized wuss...

Pumpy Tudors 11-01-2006 10:26 AM

I'll only be happy with Ryan Seacrest if he starts saying "Seacrest out" again.

Well yeah, the lawsuit was like a decade ago, right? She had to have left before that.

Ya, it's been quite some time. I was always more of a Holly Hallstrom fan myself.

Jeni apparently committed suicide early this morning. There's a thread on the board about it somewhere.

The only thing that came between my prediction and reality was a shotgun.

Maybe that was the reality from which he was trying to escape.

Fighter of Foo 03-12-2007 08:23 AM

Didn't Bob try and retire maybe 8-10 years ago? IIRC, his replacement sucked so bad they begged him to come back.

Butter 03-12-2007 08:47 AM

I think that was just when they tried to take Price is Right to a syndicated nighttime version. The night host was awful.

SFL Cat 03-12-2007 10:00 AM

Wow, I thought he had retired too and was spending all his time doing animal rights activism.

Maybe not... :(

Lathum 03-12-2007 11:02 AM

I thought only family fued hosts killed themselves.

Butter 03-12-2007 11:03 AM

Props to Mateo for searching for Richard Jeni before posting another suicide thread. Huzzah!

Lathum 05-09-2007 10:22 AM

I swear the morons on this show make me angry how stupid they are.

Bob- " Mike, what's your bid?"
Mike- " $400 Bob"
Bob- "Danny, what's your bid?"
Danny- "$900 Bob"
Bob- " Michelle, whats your bid?"
Michelle- " $700 Bob"
Bob- " Steve, what's your bid?"
Steve " $600 Bob"
Bob-" actual retail price, $550, Mike is the winner!!"

What a dumb fuck Steve is. I see this everytime I watch this fucking show. How stupid do you have to be. If you are gonna bet $600 why not just do $401 and shut out Mike. Amazing how dumb these people can be.

Ksyrup 05-09-2007 10:29 AM

Because Mike is liable to cut you after the show.

Uncle Briggs 05-09-2007 11:01 AM

Apparently Slater is a candidate to replace Bob...

Ugh, none of those three. K thx.

MikeVic 05-09-2007 11:07 AM

Hahaha. A.C. Slater! I don't know what to think if he replaced Barker. Why aren't they just stopping the show? It'll feel weird with another host.

I can kind of see George Hamilton doing Price is Right - but he must be almost as old as Barker.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind him but I'd vote no for that exact reason.

What young game show hosts are out there (since that's how Bob got Price)?

And a big fat no to Todd Newton if anyone mentions him. He already killed Press Your Luck...

Swaggs 05-09-2007 11:11 AM

If they wait another few weeks, they can probably test out Ian Ziering, John Ratzenberger, and Billy Ray Cyrus, too.

Just please don't let it be Louie Anderson.

I saw the Price is Right stage show at Bally's a few weeks ago. They've been using a series of guest hosts - I saw the guy from Blind Date. He was pretty good, a little meaner to contestants than Bob which added a new twist to things.

Ksyrup 05-09-2007 11:41 AM

That's what this show needs...a mean host. Seriously. The Blind Date guy coupled with the thought bubbles and commentary scrolling across the screen...I'd probably record it and watch it if that happened.

Pumpy Tudors 05-09-2007 12:05 PM

Chubby doesn't want Todd Newton to host the show, but I do. I'm not home during the day when the show is on, but if they had Todd Newton, I'd TiVo it. Todd Newton is a sexy, sexy man.

Maple Leafs 05-09-2007 01:39 PM

According to Wikipedia, June 15.

Edit: I should say that it is set to air on June 15. If you're, you know, planning to fly out to California for the taping, I dunno when that's happening or even if it's already happened.

rkmsuf 05-09-2007 01:51 PM

What are the odds that at some point in the show you hear "Come on dowwwwwn! You're the next....HOST! of the Price is Right!"
