FOF2k7: Unclear on the concept.
Mitch Peters, a third-year SLB out of Central Michigan, has informed me prior to the 2007 season that he's holding out for an improved contract after leading the team in tackles and assists en route to our Front Office Bowl win over the Cleveland Browns.
So, okay, I go take a look at what he's asking, just to see if it's worth giving him. He has one year left on his current contract: $1.82m base salary, $810k bonus, total of $2.63m. He wants a new three year deal with the following breakdown: $1.63m bonus $590k Y1 ($1.94m total value) $1.7m Y2 ($2.24m total value) $2.15m Y3 ($2.69m total value) I realize contracts aren't guaranteed, but it seems like if you're the team leader in tackles and the team's best defensive player, that you might want to actually request a raise if you're going to initiate a contract holdout. Yeah, you get that $1.63m in extra bonus money, but c'mon - surely you have a little more leverage than that. |
Out of curiousity, what was his loyalty rating and his agent's rating for stubborn negotiator, and is he a red flag?
|
52 loyalty
89 stubborn negotiator No red flags on the team at all. |
So he wants some bonus money but he isn't very demanding. Consider it a minor issue and thank yourself that it wasn't any worse. It is just a minor decision in the larger picture for a GM such as yourself.
|
Not terrible, he gets more guaranteed and he also gets additional years +bonus'. I can understand questioning his motives but as long as it's something that has variety (some asking for raises, others wanting security) it's realistic.
|
Nah. He's one of these prissy guys who care about nothing but the money... Cut him! :D
|
Considering what the WRs are always asking for, call it a wash and resign him.
|
Oh, I was delighted with the request.
And I actually managed to negotiate him down significantly so that he's actually going to only get $600k in bonus money and $1m less in base salary per year. But that was seriously the biggest case of contract holdout + insecurity I've ever seen. "I want more money, dammit. Don't hate me." |
