Paint/XP Problem

I can't put in a 3rd Digit as the text/border around the text is too big, so the only way around it is by using the cursor and basically guessing the colour I want.

I'm fairly sure it is due to my XP skin, but i've changed to a few differant skins with the same problem. surely there is a way I can edit this?

Try display properties => Appearance and change the Font Size. However, it looks like it is already at normal. Otherwise you might have to change the DPI setting under display properties => Settings => Advanced to get the text to fit.
