Website Functional Requirements/Requests

OK, as referenced in the webmaster thread, I do not have FOF2k7 and I have never played any version of FOF. Having said that, you guys will have to help me with the requirements for the site. I will keep updating this post as we come up with items.

Requirements
  1. Forum
  2. Upload game files
  3. Download game files
  4. HTML Reports

Requests/Hopes/Dreams
  1. List teams
  2. List standings/scores
  3. News Items

Doug:

There's a large delta between "requirements" and "requests/hopes/dreams." I think the basic requirements would be:

1. a forum (with the ability to have a few hidden forums for certain things)
2. a web page with links to:
a. a place to upload imports
b. a place to download the latest game file
c. the game-generated HTML reports
d. the forum
As far as requests/hopes/dreams, VPI97 has set the "Gold Standard" of FOF MP web sites with his work on IHOF/GEFL with his inclusion of stuff like individual player cards, stats that the game doesn't track, auto-updating the front page with posts in certain forums, and much, much, more.

I think I'd put the "standard" items as "requirements", but just not things w eneed as bare-minimums..

What I mean by that is:

1. Owner/Team List
2. At least a link to the game html output
3. Constitution

And note that I'm available to help extract data from the game. Working on the binary formats now, targeting the game log data first (which also requires cracking open some of the others, because the game logs appear to store player indices, so I need to find out where their names are hiding in the other files...)

My vision that I've explained to LS is that you would pull the data into some sort of format (.csv, .xls, somehow right into a web db format, whatever) that he could then work on the website code to utilize.

I would love to be named when people say "Gold Standard." :)

I put the forum up at http://smallvillage.net/fofc2k7/forum/ and we can move the whole thing to the domain once it exists. I gave temporary admin access to wade, just so I didn't have to setup the forums. We'll move that to the commish once he has been selected.

If we can get a good CSV or XML format for the data, I can just setup an upload form that pushes all that data into the database.

I get a 404 error when I try to go to the board.

Hrmm... I know that me and SkyDog are on there fine...

CraigSca 12-04-2006 11:41 AM

Odd. I was able to get there piece-meal (e.g. start at smallvillage.net, and then click on the correct folders). When I do it that way, it works fine.

Should the contents of this thread be moved to the new forum? I've stickied a link at the top, and am about to PM everyone.

Doug typed the wrong link in the in-thread post initially. It is now fixed.

If you have more ideas, please discuss in the new league forum:
