Harry Potter?
Any fans? the new book Harry Potter and the order of the Pheonix comes out june 21st. I can't wait.
|
I've read them all, and actually enjoyed them. They were a nice change of pace compared to what I usually read. I'll definitely be reading this one too.
|
Ya, I definitely have enjoyed the previous books. And will definitely be reading the new one.
700 pages. Yikees! (Read: Yay! More for me to read!) |
I loved the earlier books and will definitely be getting the new one as soon as possible ....
|
My wife and I are excited. Scholastic has a distribution center here and they recently had a huge book sale. We were able to pick up all of the books in hardback for $14. Can't wait to add the next one to the collection.

I was the longest anti-Harry Potter fan...until I started dating a girl who really liked it. Then I caved (how poor of me), and read the books. They are actually very well written, and I look forward to the next one completely.
|
I already have the book on preorder at the local Barnes and Noble. I will be out at midnight to get my book when it is released.
I'm not sure why I enjoy those books so much. I guess it's lucky that I just started reading them last November and not when they first came out because I would have went insane waiting the 2 or 3 years between book 4 and book 5. |
Read the first two books after seeing the movies. Really liked them.

My son and I have completed the first two books- we're now reading "Prisoner of Azkaban". I've actually found the novels and their respective movies a bit insipid. There's nothing really compelling here- minimal character development, incoherent plot line, generic fantasy, and no shades of good/evil. However, my 8 year old boy seems to like them, but we've also read "The Hobbit" and 3/4 of "The Fellowship of the Ring", and he seems to enjoy those much more. For that matter, we much prefer C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia". Harry Potter is a pop culture phenomenon, to be sure, but the actual content is a bit lacking.

dola:
That said, the novels have certainly improved my son's vocabulary. Heck, they've even improved mine! |
I'm saving the books until my Son gets a bit older. Then I'll start reading them for bedtime stories. But 3 years old is a bit too young to understand them, I think.
|
I'll read it as soon as it comes out... which unfortunately for us here in medieval France is mid-october...

Made the mistake of seeing Two Towers before going to the 2nd Harry Potter movie. While I think the books are well written and entertaining, it was just a mistake to go to that movie within a week of the Two Towers. It just seemed boring after the spectacle that was LotR. I will read the new book however and see the movie's when they come out, I'll just be more careful about my timing ;)
