Wireless Broadband cards
I am going to be given a wireless broadband card and company paid account since 80-90% of my work is now telecommuting e.g at home work. I was wondering if anyone else has used these cards and what they thought of them?
|
You mean like the Sprint card or Verizon's EV-DO? My boss swears by it and generally gets faster speeds than what I can grab from the company wireless.
|
they are great. use it all the time for my work.

Sprint card. Yeah, it is a new option to my group in my company for a few of us who are not working directly out of corporate in Denver. I heard they weren't that fast. |
I work at Verizon and the techs there absolutely love them. Too bad I'm a contractor.

Mizz,
You might be biased to this question or might not know but which is faster/better the Sprint card or the Verizon EV-DO? This question is for anyone else out there who knows as well? |

The techs had sprint cards and hated them. (this was before the merger and we were MCI). I've never used one, but whenever I fix one of their laptops they tell me those Verizon cards are amazing. Check your coverage area! |
Could be regionalized I suppose, but...
I had a sprint card for a few months, coverage was good, always had signal but SLOW Im talking slower than dialup slow... I canceled and paid the buyout because it was too stressful trying to do anything, (I literally found it quicker when on the road to find a local motel, drive to said motel and park outside and work wifi) Three weeks ago company bought me a EV-DO,DAYUM...not even close... This thing rocks. Honestly at home I cant tell the difference between working off card and plugged into my router (Cable/roadrunner)... |
I had a Verizon card for a few months and it was awful. It was slow and the connection was horribly unreliable. For what it is worth I get pretty poor cell phone coverage in my house as well so it really isn;t shocking, although the Verizon sales guy told me he didn't think it would be a problem.
There are several people in here who think they are great so I would imagine I just happen to live in a poor spot in relation to the closest cell tower. |

Yeah, if you get good Verizon cell service, you're Wireless connection will be great. Otherwise, you're SOL. |
