Got this idea from a poll I just saw on one of the sports sites. Which of these events listed would you most want to see in person?

You need to add the Daytona 500 to this list.

I would say game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals just because if it gets to a game 7 usually the teams are pretty matched and if it is a close game or overtime there is nothing more exciting in sports.

None of the above, if I'm to pick the one I'd most like to see in person -- that'd be a NASCAR race at Bristol at night.

The Daytona 500 should be on there instead of Indy.

I don't know about that.... If there was no open-wheel split, I firmly believe that the Indy 500 would still rank higher than Daytona.

In a different topic, somebody will have to explain to me the popularity of auto racing. I simply don't get it. I do see the point of listing the Daytona 500 instead of the Indy 500 -- it's outdrawn the Indy race in the ratings seven straight years.

I chose 7th game of the World Series slightly over 7th game of the Stanley Cup. The electricity of those two events is much higher than for any other event. World Cup is probably up there in terms of excitement, but I find soccer somewhat boring, so there you go. I like baseball better than hockey, so there you go.

How SuperBowl doesn't take the cake is beyong me.

I think the poll is a bit biased in the way it's worded.

Notice it's Game 7 of the Stanley Cup, World Series and NBA Championship, which doesn't happen very often. Or the last round of the Masters. Those may happen from time to time, but they are part of a larger event and the whole event should be considered. By limiting it to a final game of a larger series, you discount the other parts of the series. Since it's all tied together, you really shouldn't do that.

The World Cup final is excluded, since it's not the same teams who play each other. Same goes for the Wimbleton final.

So the poll should REALLY read:

The Masters
The NBA Finals
The Stanley Cup Finals
The Super Bowl

I'll watch anything from the BEST SEAT IN THE HOUSE. Where the beer only cost 7.49 a 12 pack. the pizza gets delivered right too me and there is no line at the pisser.

Actually, the postseason is about when I stop watching NCAA football. (unless Mizzou is somehow involved :( ) I will gladly watch a good OSU/Michigan or Notre Dame/USC or Nebraska/Colorado game every weekend. But there is something about a 4+ hour neutral site weeknight game that just doesn't do it for me come bowl season.

I am the same way with the NCAA tournament. The first rounds are so exiting because of all that is going on, but the tournament just kind of fizzles in the end every year for me. I would much rather switch to another game at the end of the game I just watched then have an hour of analysis and three playings of "One shining moment" until the next game tips off. (Again, maybe this is related to the Mizzou thing. I was really into the tourney until the final 8 last year. Though I did enjoy watching Kansas get thumped! :D )

NCAA Final 4

Well I enjoy it because of the speed involved and the skill. Most people say going around in circles is boring, but I dont get that argument. It wouldnt matter if they zig-zaged across a boat, they would still find it boring. Another reason it is popular, is people can relate to the drives, because they do it every day. It alot easier to be able to imagine your self out there than say throw a 45yd touchdown pass, just because most people drive every day.

How about the Final Four?

As difficult as it is not to pick the Super Bowl, being at something like the World Cup, on a true international stage, would really be fascinating. Maybe in Germany in 3 years....

yeah i'd love to go to the world cup... it must be an incredible atmosphere. I'd love to go to Germany in 2006 or to Ireland and Scotland if they get the joint bid for the Euro 2008

I'd say :

on a yearly basis
1 - the Super Bowl
2 - the Champions' league cup final (soccer)

if not, I feel the World cup final (soccer) is the biggest sporting moment of all since it is only once every 4 years.

To be honest, give me the first round of the NHL playoffs over the finals any day. The intensity is off the charts, and overtime is easily the most dramatic experience of any North American sporting event.

When it comes to sports tournaments, the Stanley Cup playoffs make the NCAA tournament look like a little girl.

How come nobody mentionned the Olympics ?

A bunch of friends and I are saving up money now to attend the World Cup in Germany (2006).

All of the above depend too much on who is playing. An NCAA Final with UNC playing, or a World Series game at Wrigly Field would be the ultimate for me, but just based on the event itself not knowing who is playing, I guess i'd have to take the World Cup Final.

In 1984, I was an 11 year old living in Michigan, and was a huge Detroit Tigers fan. I watched the entire world series, and cheered as the Tigers defeated San Diego 4 games to 1.

A week later, I discovered that my father had tickets to Series games 6 and 7. Needless to say, I was upset. :mad:

The only one I can legitimately knock off of this list right now is the Indy 500. The infield is an interesting place, let me tell ya. :D

Yeah, that's one I overlooked. The final race of the try for the Triple Crown would be one of the cool ones to watch.

World Cup final hands down.

1.5 billlion viewers world wide speaks for itself.

Football is easily my favorite sport, but I chose the seventh game of the Stanley Cup because I really don't think any sport is as good as hockey in person. Hockey is so much better live than on TV.

I agree. But could you imagine being with 80,000 plus people with national pride on the line? With players careers being made and broke in one game? You only get this in the World Cup final. I am not trying to push the envelope on soccer or anything, but I just think the World Cup sporting event is the best, both on TV and in person.

And did everyone know that the US vs Germany world cup quaterfinal match outdrew the NHL, NBA, and MLB playoffs despite being on during insane hours of the morning?
