Jeff Bagwell retires

Maybe the Astros can find a replacement first baseman who will stand right on TOP of the plate and break his hand even more frequently than Bagwell did.

He was scary in his prime... if you missed by an inch on that inside fastball, it was going 425 feet.

Also, if they could find a replacement for Biggio who will just dive straight over top of the plate in order to draw a HBP, that'd be awesome too.

I once saw Bagwell put one into the upper deck at 3 Rivers. Which was a pretty impressive feat, since it rarely happened. And yeah, to me, anyways, he always had way too much body armor on, and crowded the plate.

Go away all you Bagwell haters!

Poli 12-15-2006 03:31 PM

Word.

Pumpy Tudors 12-15-2006 04:12 PM

He's retired from what? Sitting on the bench?

AlexB 12-15-2006 05:24 PM

A sad loss... :(

Asswhite.

Thanks for all the memories, Bags!

Poli 12-15-2006 06:22 PM

Jeff isn't doing anything. He could hunt him down for Jeeb.

molson 12-15-2006 06:59 PM

So how much money did Bagwell end up fleecing the Astros for by pretending he wasn't retired last year?

JeeberD 12-15-2006 09:09 PM

This thread needs an LSG sighting...

Along with Biggio, he redefined not winning a title.

I have always liked Bagwell. It is sad to hear he finally threw in the towel.

Even sadder that said towel only travelled about a yard and a half.

Bagwell was one of my first favourite players in any sport. I loved his batting stance, and emulated it when I played with friends. He'll be missed in the game.

Philliesfan980 12-16-2006 08:14 AM

I think he was juiced.

sterlingice 12-17-2006 04:39 PM

Wow, a lot of bitter a-holes in this thread.

Anyways, a nice career and all with the same team. Just don't see that much any more- great career for Bags.
