2006-2007 NCAA College Football Bowl Thread

Yes, I am actually watching the Poisetta Bowl.

It beats studying Contracts.

RedKingGold 12-19-2006 09:22 PM

All you need to do in this game is look at the first downs by each team midway through the third quarter:

TCU: 17 First Downs
Northern Illinois: 3 First Downs (2 by penalty).

Where, oh where, is that little NIU running back whom everyone was screaming Heisman for in September?

miami_fan 12-19-2006 09:26 PM

You sir are a die hard! I tried for the first quarter and switched it to college basketball.

Honolulu_Blue 12-20-2006 05:46 AM

I watched some of this game. I was switching between this and various hockey games.

Did anyone catch the halftime show in the studio? They had the guys there discuss which bowl game they were most looking forward to. Doug Flutie, for example, said he was most looking forward to the Fiesta bowl to see Boise State vs. Oklahoma.

When Desmond Howard came up, he said he was most looking forward to the Holiday Bowl because he wanted to see Cal vs. Texas. Yes, Texas. The graphic underneath Howard clearly, and correctly, showed that the Holiday Bowl was between Cal and Texas A&M. It wasn't as if Howard was just mistakenly calling Texas A&M "Texas." He actually was talking about match-ups between Cal's offense and Texas' defense (identifying Aaron Ross) and he even wondered what would happen if McCoy went down with injury since Snead was transferring out.

How does this happen? ESPN had the right graphic up when Howard started talking about the bowl, so they knew his general topic. Do they not know anything more than that? How in the hell when he was coming up with everything he said did he not stop and notice, "Oh, Cal is playing Texas A&M, not Texas." It was very odd.

Butter 12-20-2006 06:39 AM

Because Desmond Howard is a talentless waste of space. Much like most of the talking heads on ESPN's broadcasts, but made slightly worse because he is a UM homer.

TazFTW 12-24-2006 06:58 PM

Hawaii Bowl is on ESPN in a few minutes, Hawaii vs Arizona State.

Vegas Vic 12-24-2006 07:12 PM

Where is k0ruptr at? He's usually good for about 200 posts during a Hawaii game.

MJ4H 12-24-2006 07:29 PM

per hour

MikeVick7 12-24-2006 08:15 PM

I wouldn't be posting either if my team has only 3 points on the board against ASU either.

About time. :)

Young Drachma 12-24-2006 09:30 PM

Thrilled that New Mexico lost the bowl game they had no business playing in...at home.

TazFTW 12-24-2006 10:26 PM

Thrown out of the game for high fiving the fans?

Young Drachma 12-24-2006 10:27 PM

Unsportsmanlike conduct for giving a bunch of kids a hi five in the stands.

Aah, good old college football.

Glad it wasn't just me.

How stupid.

Young Drachma 12-24-2006 10:30 PM

Jerry Glanville is D Coordinator at Hawaii? Wow. Those kids have quite the coaching staff.

JonInMiddleGA 12-24-2006 10:31 PM

"This ain't Green Bay"

Probably a little overzealous on the flag there, but I thought that was a pretty good line.

TazFTW 12-24-2006 10:40 PM

Now THAT is how you run out the clock. ;)

haha. No kidding. This is like playing a video game.

JonInMiddleGA 12-24-2006 10:46 PM

Okay, the later it gets, the more the pbp guy is turning into Stuart Scott.
Stop it.

Meanwhile, anybody else think Brennan looks a little like a young Brett Favre?
Not his style, I mean his face/looks. That's who he reminds me of, a too cool version of Favre.

Young Drachma 12-24-2006 10:48 PM

Is she wearing a cocktail dress? What the hell?

Young Drachma 12-24-2006 10:50 PM

Wow. You're right. He is Stuart Scott. It was funny once, but he took it too far.

It's early there, she's still got time to make a party or two on Christmas Eve.
Hell, what would you do if you were in Hawaii for Christmas?
(albeit hopefully an outfit that was more gender appropriate for you than a cocktail dress)

He needs to remove the word "dap" from his on-air vocabulary. And he knew it too, that's what caused me to notice it. There was a hesitation before he said it the first time (presumably as he pondered whether the audience would know what the word meant), and then he hesitated again before the second use. By the third time, it was like "watch this, I'm gonna be cool/hip/funky & you can't stop me, you can only hope to contain me".

Haha. True. But...she's wearing it at work. I mean, you'd think she'd wear something more appropriate for sideline reporting. It probably wasn't a cocktail dress. But it looked pretty low cut for being on national tv, even if their job is to look good for the camera.

I noticed the hesitation too. That's funny. I think he was running out of stuff to say. You have to feel for the crews at the crappier games having to do color for two teams that really aren't that good and so, you have to start dreaming up stuff to talk about.

But this game wasn't one of those to me.

Nah, this definitely wasn't one of those games.

It is a nightmare when the game is a stinker, I've been there & done that at the high school level, and even with the additional preparation that guys at the ESPN level get a chance to do beyond what I could do, there's only so much you can do to disguise a steaming pile sort of game.

I actually thought the color commentator tonight did a pretty good job, I just felt like the pbp sort of digressed like the ASU defense, getting worse as the game went on.

k0ruptr 12-25-2006 05:46 PM

680 total yards of offense against the 28th D in the nation??? HAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

well done Warriors.

JonInMiddleGA 12-27-2006 09:38 PM

I may be the only person watching FSU/UCLA, but the real story may end up being somebody getting hurt on this poor excuse for turf. If they can't prepare the field any better than this then it's time for the Emerald Bowl to go bye-bye.

Not to mention the outfield wall that is 2 inches from the end line in the one endzone.

JonInMiddleGA 12-27-2006 10:15 PM

Horrendous call by the official on a kickoff near the sideline, ruling that UCLA player was out of bounds when he touched the kickoff, making it a kickoff out of bounds. Problem was that he wasn't OOB & the ball belongs at the UCLA 3 yd line.

Now we're reviewing ... and they get it right in spite of themselves.

Celeval 12-27-2006 10:20 PM

Actually, I haven't thought the refs have been too bad in this one. I'd like to get a better view of the Carr touchdown a few minutes ago to see about a possible offensive PI, but I haven't had too many quibbles.

Very entertaining game, though, for someone with only a slight rooting interest.

JonInMiddleGA 12-27-2006 10:46 PM

Wow. Back & forth game turns into a rout, with a blocked punt TD & an INT TD sparking FSU to a 44-27 win over UCLA.

Celeval 12-27-2006 11:17 PM

Fun game to watch. Hopefully a precursor to the run of games kicking off in the next few days.

It's been raining off and on throughout California...

MrBug708 12-27-2006 11:49 PM

Tough loss to swallow. The players executed poorly in this game as UCLA was set up to blow out FSU and they could never quite turn the corner and ended up getting blown out.

It's been an up and down season but it's now Basketball season and UCLA is ranked first :)

Young Drachma 12-28-2006 12:50 AM

Wow. Way for Dorrell's boys to go there and get waxed. He might have saved himself with the USC win, but that result can't be considered acceptable in my mind.

Ksyrup 12-28-2006 06:45 AM

Finally a little spark of something from FSU. But in reality, I'm more firmly against Weatherford being the QB next year than I was before the game. He's one of the least accurate QBs I've seen this year. I don't know what Bowden has against Xavier Lee, but I would have played him some last night because Weatherford was missing some easy passes.

I hope Booker has a great pro career. The coaches at FSU tried to completely destroy his talent, but they couldn't quite get it done (as usual).

ice4277 12-28-2006 07:11 AM

What, no love for my Chippewas????????? 31-14 baby!

MJ4H 12-28-2006 05:18 PM

Hahaha man I missed Joe Kines. He is my freaking hero.

cartman 12-28-2006 05:19 PM

Did anyone just see the interview with Joe Kines as they went into halftime? I couldn't understand a word he said, I'm not sure if it was even English. 24-14 Oklahoma State over 'Bama at the half in Shreveport.

Yeah that's what prompted me to post. He was the head coach at Arkansas for a brief bit and a defensive coordinator for a number of years. Very likable guy.

Young Drachma 12-28-2006 06:36 PM

Grr..I'm so annoyed that the Rutgers game is on the NFL Network.

JPhillips 12-28-2006 06:43 PM

Nice backward pass to the tackle.

I didn't realize anyone could catch a backward pass.

Vegas Vic 12-28-2006 06:43 PM

Aggie Lite pulling the big choke in a manner that would make their namesakes from the south proud.

Young Drachma 12-28-2006 07:43 PM

14-0 Rutgers leads K State, almost end of the first quarter.

Young Drachma 12-28-2006 08:15 PM

http://www.nj.com/wrsu/

A link to a web radio feed for the Rutgers game.

Young Drachma 12-28-2006 08:32 PM

Apparently, the field in Houston is really sloppy and players aren't able to get footing. 14-10 Rutgers, but the K State touchdown came on special teams. Ito missed a field goal that would've given RU a 17-10 lead. Just over a minute left in the first half, Rutgers is trying to push towards the end zone or at least to get 3. We'll see..

Young Drachma 12-28-2006 09:05 PM

Rutgers ran back an INT early in the 3rd Quarter, 24-10 Scarlet Knights.

Young Drachma 12-28-2006 09:18 PM

Ray Rice scores on a long run. 31-10 Scarlet Knights.

They need new jerseys next year to include New Jersey on some of their gear.

Or is not having the state's name on stuff an advantage? ;)
