To the owners of the now-defunct Super League

If you're still interested in an online fictional league, reply to this thread. Based on the replies here, I'll look into re-starting the league.

Note that it may take a couple of weeks for me to get my act together (and Nugget may still be involved). Again, just gauging interest.

Hammer 01-01-2007 01:43 PM

How does a new full league fall flat on its face so early, if you don't mind me asking?

headtrauma 01-01-2007 01:56 PM

You'll have to ask Nugget on that one. I was as surprised by it as you were. I think he was a little overwhelmed and some of the personality conflicts provided the tipping point. If I were to start a league, I'd be sure to solicit the assistance of others. :)

Ben E Lou 01-01-2007 02:08 PM

I'm interested, especially if we can pick up where we left off.

What he said. I was looking forward to seeing how my starters do in the final preseason game, and this happens... with no warning at all.

Not a good way to kick off the new year.

Bode 01-01-2007 05:23 PM

Very strange. I was looking forward to getting started in multiplayer.

So what happened? A conflict between 2 teams in a 32 team league and the rest of us are done?

As far as I could tell, the conflict was over. It hadn't even been discussed in nearly a week. I agree that this is very strange.

Bode 01-01-2007 05:34 PM

So are there any multiplayer leagues in 2007 with openings now?

I refrained from joining multiple leagues so I would have time for the one I was in, and now it's gone. :/ It appears all the others are full atm.

I guess next time I will join a few if they are this unstable.

I don't think they're normally this unstable.

aquatix 01-01-2007 05:50 PM

I'm still in if we keep those rosters

twothree 01-01-2007 06:39 PM

That sucks. I was initially in the league as Wilmington, but left after the first time it was restarted. I really liked the team I had then, and didn't want to give it up. So since most of us, accidentally, had the commissioner's password, I was able to continue playing that team. I played five seasons on my own, before deleting the league when the USFL converted to FOF 2k7 just recently. I never did win my division, and only made the playoffs in years three and four.

Here's hoping that if enough of you want to continue playing the league that one of you (and only one of you :) ) will be able to get your game's commish password.

Hoosierbuckeye 01-01-2007 06:55 PM

The conflict was over. It wasn't much of a conflict, it was me acting an ass and I apologized to everyone involved. If that was missed, then I'll tell Skydog that I'm sorry here and now. I can get kind of mercurial at times.

It befuddles me how it just stopped and I don't think it was this conflict. I'd hate to think that it was the reason. I hope the league gets resurrected. The owners there are great and put a lot of work into their teams. They deserve another try.

headtrauma 01-01-2007 07:17 PM

Allow me to pose these questions:

Who's in if we completely re-start? Would that be a minor inconvenience or a complete and total deal-killer?

Since Nugget started the Super League, I'd like to leave it with him in case he ever decides to start it back up -- it might be simpler to start anew as a totally separate entity.

Discuss.

Trades were made. Rosters were tweaked. Season previews were written. We should be discussing Week 1 of the Regular Season right now. I, for one, would be far less excited about re-starting. I don't care so much about the league name, team names, and logos. I DO, however, care about the roster that I spent time putting together. If you want to change team names and logos and league name and let Nugget restart the Super League with different players later on, that's fine with me. The reality, though, is that if I joined a new league *without* the players I had, then Nugget decides to restart the Super League *with* the players I had, I'd probably end up leaving the league you start anyway.

As I said privately, the apology is accepted. And, as I said publicly, I thought we'd moved on from this anyway.

It's hard to interpret what is currently posted at the former league web as saying anything but that it WAS the reason:

I understand i'm painting everyone with the same brush but i'm sick and tired of spending time and effort, along with headtrauma, and all the others who put time and effort into the league only for the odd people to spoil it.
Feel free to contact me if you have any queries, otherwise I apologise, and wish you the best of luck in finding a more stable league.

Agreed.

Bonegavel 01-01-2007 09:08 PM

I'm shocked as well. I just got home from a 3 day jaunt to my sister's in NY and I see that message in place of a download. I thought that was one of the most tame discussions I've ever seen, especially given the apology etc.

I'm very interested in keeping this going since I've spent a lot of time printing rosters and analyzing log files. I've even gone so far as to create a few threads documenting some strife on my team that I was starting to get into.

If Ian is going to bolt at the first sign of conflict (regardless of severity), I don't think that bodes well for the future of the SL (should he jump back in). Still, I think he was doing an awesome job as commish and I think it's a shame to toss it all away on something that seems to have wrapped itself up so neatly.

Should the SL go back into business, would Ian want us to use these forums to discus anything he deems conflict? I think that is silly, but that may just be me.

Count me in for a re-start. Although I did have high hopes for my team in its first season.

If we completely restart, I'm back in. I'd prefer not to, but in the end I want to play FOF2K7 MP and it seemed that the group that were in the SL were decent folks.

Also, we need to keep the countdown timer!!!!!! :)

heardie 01-01-2007 09:26 PM

I guess the world just wasn't ready for Skip Priester!

Seriously, if the league gets restarted with the current teams I am def in.

If we have to restart again with new teams...well I'd probably be in, but frustrated, yes.

ditto with me. Verrrry frustrating. Not that my team was any good, but I was looking forward to getting things going.

Honestly though, if I join again, I'd like reassurances from the commish that he's not going to flake again. The argument was silly, but the commish flaking out just as the season is about to start is even sillier.

BradS 01-02-2007 03:10 AM

I'm for continuing where we left off.

Hoosierbuckeye 01-02-2007 07:10 AM

Out

I'd have to stay out. Embarassment is a major reason, but I think that for the "new" leagues sake it should go on without skeletons in the closet.

ya know, with minor gameplanning even in preseason, Dayton was 2-1. Not bad for such a darn young team. Especially since the one loss was in the first game of the season when everyone's gameplanning was accidentally tossed.

Bonegavel 01-02-2007 11:22 AM

Hoosierbuckeye.

I'm a let bygone's be bygone's type of guy for situations like this when all involved basically shake hands and make up. I'd hope you'd stay.

Even if you had stormed off into the sunset in a cloud of colorful metaphors, the league should still rage on. These kind of things are going to have speed bumps but I'd like to think we are all up-to-the-challenge to work through them.

MJ4H 01-02-2007 12:07 PM

Well this is the second time Ive gone through a boatload of effort with my team only to have it thrown in the trash can. Im not doing it again. Shame cause MP was the main reason I bought FOF2k7. Waste of money I guess.

Sigh.

PS: I dont have enough trust in a restart to bother going through effort on my team again with a chance it could fizzle out too. I just dont have that kind of time and Im not risking the time I do have for this kind of game a third time.

Nice one.

I've asked Nugget about forking over control of the league file. If that's not workable, then I'll start anew.

And if you're worried about me flaking out on this, I've been running an OOTP league for almost 5 years (www.snowballhidalgo.com).

Keep in mind, I'd still like to distribute the work a bit. I can provide the web space and all the backend stuff. If anyone would like to be the main sim czar, I'm all ears. :)

MJ4H 01-02-2007 08:50 PM

Just because I know you will need a definite list of owners if it restarts, I will reiterate that I am out.

Bode 01-03-2007 01:05 AM

Headtrauma,

I have plenty of time on my hands, but I dont know what to do. However, if you showed me the process of what you'd need done, I'm sure I could handle it.

I’d be interested in joining as I’ve been looking for a fictional league for some time now. However, I’d only be interested if the league was restarted & not a continuation of the previous league.

Bonegavel 01-03-2007 10:23 AM

I'm definitely in whether we continue or restart. I'm going to try building on the interview/news stuff I was doing with my team. It was fun and helped me get to know my players.

I'm going to break out my alter-ego/newsreporter Oliver Heratio Vanhooeydonk.

The league had only been running for the first four weeks of the preseason...

Iceman99 01-03-2007 03:11 PM

Well it is finally good to see why it went south. I just logged on and everything was gone.

Headtrauma... I (formally the El Paso Outlaws) and my fellow player Stillseekhim (LA Broncos) are in either way....

I personally would not be phased if we started all over. But I can understand those who wanted to keep their teams.

The only request I have is that players from the super league get first dibs on teams :)....

I've posted a 'where are we now?' thread as well as a sign up thread:

Iceman99 01-03-2007 09:04 PM

Thanks Sir. Updated :)

DougWyatt 01-04-2007 06:56 AM

I looked at your site, and read this thread & am still a bit unclear. Is this league going to continue with the league setup & rosters of the Super League or whatever that other league was ?

This will be a fresh restart. See the first bullet in this posting:

lol. duh - tell ya the truth, I probably missed it because it's bolded ! Totally the opposite effect it's suppose to have.

Wow, talk about bad luck! Don't let your head down now, at least you learned something about roster building. MP FOF is too much fun to give up now. It can be hard to pick the right league, but most leagues don't fall apart that fast. Three times the charm!

mrsimperless 01-17-2007 11:47 AM

I'll give fof2k7 mp ONE MORE go. After that I'm doneskee.

Slothman 01-24-2007 06:16 PM

Ahhh... Just got told about this by Royce from the old Superleague...I hope there is some spots left.
