The Hattrick Epidemic

I would just like to know who is the monkey who started this virus known as Hattrick. This one well made game. Personally Hattrick has me sucked in I am thinking about becoming a supporter sometime in the future. I am a huge fan of european soccer fan and now I get to test my soccer knowledge on this well made game. Everyone should go play this game its pretty damn good.

McSweeny 02-18-2003 06:53 PM

aren't they going to start charging for it? that's what's been detering me

Qwikshot 02-18-2003 06:55 PM

Get it while its free...besides...I'm saving up for Champ Man 4, this will tide me over, and I can play against FOFC members, that rocks!!!

McSweeny 02-18-2003 06:56 PM

damn you qwikshot... i was only like 15 posts behind you 2 weeks ago

Really? Where did you hear that? I haven't heard that....I did hear that about HAM, though, and I'm hoping that's what you're talking about.

I told you you wouldn't catch me...

btw I think you are thinking of Hattrick Assistant Manager which is now a pay to use item, but the game itself is free...as far as I know...

You can't catch me 'cause the rabbit done died
Yes It Did...

damnMikeBrown 02-18-2003 07:48 PM

I haven't heard a whisper about charging for Hattrick, either. As mentioned above, HAM has become shareware, and that has caused a rather large stir in the community.

I'd like maybe one more game a week, or something else in between. As it is, I just turn the thing on, and look at it. I go from screen to screen, not necessarly looking at anything, just needing to look.

daedalus 02-18-2003 08:21 PM

Y'know I can't remember who started us going to this game, either. Strange.

McSweeny 02-18-2003 09:22 PM

whoops looks like i was confused about what was free and what wasn't

bbor 02-18-2003 09:49 PM

I bet it was Ardent...he gets us all hooked on it and he leaves...the rat bastard :D

vex 02-18-2003 10:22 PM

Ardent, Horned, or DataKing would be my guess.

samifan24 02-18-2003 10:24 PM

Ardent fed me my crack-er-Hattrick addiction.

HornedFrog Purple 02-18-2003 10:29 PM

It wasnt me. I just remember someone posting about it so I signed up. I think ardent and I signed up at the same time. But it is amazing how many people are playing it now. Sometime around October we had like 12 people on the list and now its massive and the fed thing is up to 17 members now when before we scrapped to get the mininum of 6. :)

vex 02-18-2003 10:32 PM

I joined the last year around May or June, but then I forgot about hattrick, unfortunately.

Poli 02-19-2003 12:13 AM

Ahem, let me shed light on the subject. If my memory does not fail me...the one who got both Illini and myself started...is no other than NYFAN with a "hattrick.org?" post. I looked at it, thought, wow, a lot of people signed up for this...and signed up as well. Most of the original people who signed up dropped out...but a few of us...Illini, myself, Horned are still around. I don't remember if DK was part of the group.

However, I do feel responsible for the spread. I apologize to everyone. Wait, that's not right. I don't apologize. You will all have to suffer. Sorry, it's not my idea. Hattrick told me so.

daedalus 02-19-2003 12:20 AM

Good memory. I KNEW we kept you around for a reason. :)

If I'm not mistaken, bbor and myself joined in the first wave as well. He's a game fiend and I'm, well, nosy. [We were suffering withdrawal symptoms from CSMB at the time, I believe.]

Poli 02-19-2003 12:25 AM

I was previously kept around to help "even the odds" for the odd team in trivia bouts. However, I have since switched teams, and abstain from all sport trivia contests so that everyone else has a chance. I was just dominating and it was embarassing.

I felt like a Wig for a while. =-)

daedalus 02-19-2003 01:22 AM

Were you nifty or nasty? :)

Poli 02-19-2003 10:41 AM

I've yet to decide.

bbor 02-19-2003 01:11 PM

I have been around since the first "wave"....but my team STILL sucks :D

The Afoci 02-19-2003 01:21 PM

anyone for a friendly????

Fighting Crawfish (70798)

I just got my team yesterday, so i am no good...at least i think so

JeeberD 02-19-2003 01:29 PM

Alright, I'm off to hattrick.org to check this out. We shall see if the epidemic continues to spread or if I'm immune...

illinifan999 02-19-2003 04:57 PM

bbors, I fell ya man. My team sucks too. At least I am out of debt though. I have a felling in 2007 when HFP's team gets good, we might make a serious run at second place. ;)

Poli 02-19-2003 05:01 PM

Resistance if futile. You will all be assimilated.

I can't accept your challenge till the team returns from an international friendly "beating"

Easy Mac 02-19-2003 07:57 PM

Woohoo, my first game as manager, and win 4-2. I'm so shocked I won, I didn't know it'd be this easy.

moriarty 02-19-2003 08:18 PM

I was up 3-0 in my friendly only to lose 3-4 (must be poor stamina). :(

Then again i was playing my scrubs ... or at least what I think were my scrubs.

HornedFrog Purple 02-19-2003 08:21 PM

Story of my hattrick career:

Horned seemed to suffer a certain amount of confusion about the organization of the team.

Horned appeared unsure on how to play.

samifan24 02-19-2003 09:00 PM

In the FOFC Consolation Round which just finished tonight, I won 3-2 in PKs. We were tied 1-1 for the full time and after an OT period, so we went into kicks and I won 3-2. A very exciting match to say the least!

mrushh 02-19-2003 11:30 PM

JeeberD, NNNOOOOOOO.

Don't succumb. I did, and look what happened to me.

JeeberD 02-19-2003 11:40 PM

Well, I signed up for a team. I guess I have to wait a few days before they actually give it to me though. We'll see then whether or not I get sucked in...

mrushh 02-19-2003 11:47 PM

Yeah, JeeberD, they ARE gonna give it to you. It may hurt the first time, though. : )

bbor 02-20-2003 11:31 AM

Why are "freindlies" not so freindly to me?

Poli 02-20-2003 12:05 PM

I lost 11-1! Sometimes, they're not so friendly to me, either.

O.K...i'll shut up now:D

you playing a team at your level?...or higher?

Easy Mac 02-20-2003 12:07 PM

1-0 so far in friendlies. Dacman better watch out next week, I'm coming for him.

HornedFrog Purple 02-20-2003 12:10 PM

Haha GM-George's scrubs could beat all of our teams combined 11 against 390. :D

Poli 02-20-2003 12:10 PM

I played Gm-George...I think he's the top team in D2.

Just surprised I got a goal in. Everyone was playing defensive! Imagine if I put my run and shoot out there. I may have got two goals, but I would have allowed three touchdowns!

HornedFrog Purple 02-20-2003 12:18 PM

My worst beating was against Isonet Toronto 7-0. I traveled there and made 18 cents in exchange-rate. :D

moriarty 02-20-2003 12:30 PM

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to accepting a friendly overseas? I just was offered a match in England (seems like since I'm in last place of the lowest series, I get a lot of offers to boot teams' morale).

Just wondering if the midweek travel overseas tires my players out, or if I potentially could make more $$ off the match.

If ya have money to burn it's o.k...but i have NEVER made money on an international freindly.

NevStar 02-20-2003 12:45 PM

The big disadvantage is the $6000 travel fee you have to pay to play an away international friendly. This probably means that you'd lose money unless they drew LOTS of fans.

The advantage is that your players earn double experience, but it's still 5 times less than what they'd earn playing in a league match.

moriarty 02-20-2003 01:09 PM

Ouch. The 6k sounds like a rough deal (especially when no one in their right mind would come see my misfits play).

One more quick question, what is the impact of firing a player? Or bascially, if I can't get anyone to bite on the transfer wire, is there a reason why I shouldn't fire the player to avoid the wage hit?

SplitPersonality1 02-20-2003 01:29 PM

Just want you all to know - that I officially hate you guys for talking up hattrick and getting me hooked.

Poli 02-20-2003 02:58 PM

Was it 6k for traveling? I thought it was less than that. At any rate, if you get a team that draws well for friendlies, it's not that bad. I was pulling in about 6 to 8k for international friendlies...I thought that was covering the trip cost...maybe I was wrong!

NevStar 02-20-2003 03:28 PM

From the rules:
Quote:

Obviously, flight tickets and hotels are expensive stuff, so you need to pay 6.000 US$ (or whatever equivalent in your own currency) for each International friendly. Friendlies withing your own country are still free though. On the other hand, International friendlies tend to attract more spectators than regular friendlies.

About firing:

I know immediately firing a youth pull has no adverse effects. If you fire an established player, there may or may not be a small spirit decrease.
