DTV DRV Problem - "Searching for Authorized Content"

My in-laws just got Direct TV with a HD DVR. They are periodically getting a message when they are trying to record that says "Searching for Authorized Content". They are trying to record normal shows like Desperate Housewives and CSI Miami.

Has anyone had this problem and know of any way to fix it?

Thanks in advance.

This sounds like they might be attempting to record episodes of TV shows off of the video on demand channels when they have not purchased a VOD episode. I have my DVR set to skip over any PPV channels when searching for shows to record. I think for Direct TV that's anything in the 100-200 range.

We haven't had that problem, but when you're searching do you search by title? My wife just showed me that you can search by actor as well.

From what I gather, she uses the tv guide functionality and highlights the shows. She then records from that menu.

She is definitely not using the on demand channels. I would be surprised if she even knew they existed.

Then she shouldn't have a problem. If she's highlighting the show from the TV guide then she should have the options (forgive me, this is from memory and it's after a few beers and my son is watching the Iron Man DVD):

Record Once
Record Series
blah
blah
blah

Highlighting either of the RECORDs will take you to the options of settings like what kinds of episodes (new or both), how much early, how much after it's over, etc. I think from those options you just need to select DONE and it's done.

Barring those things, I'd call DirecTV.

Thanks Raiders Army for the response, that is what she is doing and I told her to call DirecTV, as it's possible the box is defective.

I posted here just in case someone else something similar and tried a resolution that I didn't ponder.

My box tries to record the "national" locals sometimes, giving me this error. Off the top of my head those locals are the 80 range and the 380 range. See if that is the problem.

dola -

By that I mean make sure she is recording her local channels, not the national locals.

Does that make sense?
