OT: online poker players
I just qualified for the PS Sunday Million. While I am most assuredly dead money, this will be the biggest tourney I've ever played in. The stacks are deep (10k), which I'm not used to.
Just cashing will be a huge confidence boost for me. The first obstacle is remember what time the tourney starts. Any other helpful suggestions? |
dont get stuck playing an A4.

Placed 3rd in a 180 player tourney as a warmup. Now for some sleep.

Yeah. You should learn when to hold em. Also try to obtain some knowledge of when to fold em. There will be times for you to walk away, and sometimes you should run - you'll probably need to know that too. My main advise is to not count your money at the table - cuz you'll have enough time to count when the dealins done. |
Fouts, I have played in this tournament a few times and finished as high as 191 out of about 6000. Here is my strategy.
Play tight early on, your chip stack is so huge and the blinds are so small any pots you win will be insignificant in the long run. The risk vs. Reward factor isn't there. I would only play premium hands and an occasional looser hand in late position just so you don't get a tight image' If you can increase your chip stack 15%-20% you are in good shape, anything better is gravy. Once the blinds go up, right around the first break they go to 150-300 is the time you want to move. I would get aggresive in late position, esprcialy in unopened pots where you can steal the blinds and antes. This level is important to keep pot odds in mind, alot of short stacks are going to move all in so you need to keep in mind if you have calling chips and are getting the right odds even if you have a marginal hand. I have seen alot of all ins at this level with A7, KQ, J10, etc... One thing to keep in mind, if you are calling an all in at this level make sure there isn't a bigger stack behind you who may re raise. If you have a monster hand I would do the re raise and isolate, don't get to cute. Once you get past the next 4-5 levels you should be getting close to the money, this is where you need to ask yourself a VERY important question. Do you want to make the money or do you want to win. If you want to make the money play very tight, playing only premium hands if you are in early position. If you want to win this is a great spot to get agressive with marginal hands, so many players will be tightining up to make the money so you can steal alot of blinds and antes of players who wanna squeek in. The key to this is you have to have the balls to put a smaller stack all in to a test for their life so close to the money. A few other things: Try and use the notes feature, it is very helpfull. Keep in mind about 5000 people got in on satalites also, the level of competition won't be that high and there will be alot of loose early play by people looking to double up. Have fun, if this is the first time playing for big stakes just enjoy it! it's exciting. I hope this helps Fouts! Godd Luck!!! |
Play ABC poker until you cash. With the amount of people that enter this game you can be assured there are a lot of chips up for grabs. What's your handle on PS? I'm StealthM something rather and I'll be playing.

Do you have Poker Tracker?

I couldn't remember my sn for pokerstars. |
Lathum, thanks a ton. That is great info. Yes, this is my biggest tourney to date, and while it only cost me $18 to get in, the reward is huge if I play well and catch some luck.
I have poker tracker, but never use it. My handle is the same as here. Last night there were 2k people registered, and now we're nearing 5k. |
Good luck, sir.

Facing raise and reraise I folded JJ. How weak is that?
|
TT and JJ first raises take down pots. I'm back to original 10k.
|
Not weak at all. Given the way the hand has come to you, you have no choice but to throw it away.
Your only real play there is fold or push, and I'm definitely not pushing with a middle pair and that information out there. |

Seems solid to me. |
First break, we've gone down from 6786 to 5146 players. I am just over what I started with. 1080 players get paid.
|
My KJ loses decent pot to QJ. That one hurt.
|
Busted flush draw and I'm on fumes. I have to move in soon.
|
A10 loses to KK and I'm out. I played about 10% of the pots, totally out of my league there.

I would be willing to bet the talent disparity is in your head. With so many satellites running the Million often plays like the small buy in tournaments. Sure a lot of great players play in that tournament, but it is still absolutely loaded with poor players. |

I've found this to be true as well. In most tournaments it's best to assume everyone plays retardedly until proven otherwise. |
