Jesus Camp - The Movie

Since its on DVD, I think this movie may get a little more talk around here. Anyway, I'm watching this now, and while its pretty sick, its amazingly hilarious and will give me a million quotes.

You don't make heroes out of warlocks.
Lord, please protect these powerpoint presentations, we know how the devil tries to destroy these things.

This movie is oddly brilliant.

I saw it in the theater, shortly before the Haggard fiasco. The Harry Potter scene was fantastic. As was the camera work when she was talking about American values in the car.

It is what it is though, a preaching to the choir type film. But I suspect as ridiculous as they came off, Evangelicals may feel they were portrayed accurately.

I loved the scene where Haggard backhanded that kid with a compliment, "Keep preaching using your cuteness and maybe you have something worth saying in 20 years".

I just have to say, that kid has the greatest rat tail ever. Its better than the real thing.

Oh shit, I love Ted Haggard railing against homosexuality.

I almost picked up this movie. It looked good for some gold UIC.

I saw it in the theatre as well, and GOD was it frightening. The Harry Potter scene was ridiculous in the extreme. And knowing that the Haggard was the same guy as in Jesus Camp was just priceless. As was the scene at the end, where the girl assumed the black folk were Muslims!

It's just frightening to realize these people are in our country.

And the evangelical preacher actually thought it was good. Haggard, and the national evangelicals, thought it was unfair.

Yep.

For me it was part scary, part funny and somehow that added up to really uncomfortable. Seriously, I can't remember any other movie that made me cringe so much.

I'd say a few examples have already been alluded to in this thread.

The movie follows an evangelical Christian preacher and her youth group/camp plus a couple of her campers (roughly 10 year old kids). They just get into a lot of awkward situations and say a lot of odd things along the way. Sometimes it is just the kids being naive, some of the things said and done are in poor taste (little kids being told a lot of graphic stuff about abortions, for example) and some of the stuff is just flat out bizarre. I don't really want to give examples if you don't want spoilers, but that's about the best I can sum it up.
