I'm a big movie fan so i'll be watching as much as i can tonight, and i imagine a lot of others will be too.

I've seen all the major nominated films (yes, even The Devil Wears Prada), so here are my thoughts:

* I would pick Leo for The Departed, but he was nominated for the wrong f'ing movie.

will win: Eddie Murphy

Best Supporting Actress
should win: Cate Blanchett
will win: Jennifer Hudson

I have no problem with actually making this night about movies, rather than celebrity masterbation.

Just enjoying the HD.

Hmm, they historically had opened with one of the supporting actor/tress categories (something the average joe would view as a "real" category)... interesting that they changed that up this time around.

I hate opinions.

Glad to see some love for Pan's Labyrinth, since it's likely to get shutdown in all major categories. Very good movie.

glad to see she corrected the Penelope Cruz = mexican comment.. i cringed at the time she said it, thinking it was pretty unbelievable they'd make a mistake like that in the opening, and in reference to a major nominee.

Eddie's last decade of movies did him in.

I was thinking that. There sure was a lot of love for that movie and Hollywood loves to make itself feel like it's progressive. Though Jennifer Hudson winning for Best Supporting Actress will likely be the most predictable moment of the night.

If that Melissa Ethridge song wins best song there will be carnage in my neighborhood.

Did anyone else think that Melissa Etheridge looked like Hillary Clinton... I mean I know they're both lesbians, but she could find a better looking lesbian to look like.

Gore has gotten huge.

And I hope LMS doesn't keep winning awards. Of all the quirky indie movies, it was easily the least intriguing of them.

I think that win more likely represents the "throwing an old actor a bone" syndrome that you see in the Oscars. They love to basically hand out a lifetime achievement award when they get the chance. That's why I think Scorcese actually has a strong chance in Director for a change... though something tells me Departed and Iwo Jima will spilt the 2 big categories.

That would be a shame, although "Little Miss Sunshine" was the best movie I saw last week.

She was quite amazing in HD. The best so far.

Melissa Etheridge is from my neighborhood (Leavenworth, KS), so I'm pretty sure there'll be the opposite of carnage there if she were to win.

Ok, all of this recognizing the other people in Hollywood is cute. But I don't really care. Let's get down to business and give out the awards that the people at home really care about.

American Idol represent... though Guarini and Clarkson was robbed.

I'm so out of touch with movies these days, I've never heard of most of these actors/actresses and movies. :(

I really hope Meryl Streep wins Leading Actress. She freaking made The Devil Wears Prada.

Other than that I'm cheering for Babel to win as many awards as possible and for "Love You I Do" to win Best Original song.

I didn't like the movie overall, but that was definitely a solid song.

As much as I like Marty's movies, this wasn't his best and it wasn't even the best nominated.


Sure you don't have them backwards? Eastwood deserves to win this year, Marty will probably win in a sort of lifetime achievement award. He's been owed an Oscar for 16 years now...

So? Just because she made that movie doesn't mean she was the best actress this year... Dench & Mirren were much better.

bah, that was the worst documentary I saw all year. jesus camp, the heart of the game and so much so fast were far better.

agreed completely. VERY strong year in the best Actress category.

Yeah I know :)... I'm just saying that "making a movie" isn't really a reason to name someone best actress.
