Laptop will not power on
 

Looking for some help. At lunch today, everything was fine, the laptop was working perfectly. When I got home, I tried to turn it on, but it would not power up at all. With the adapter in, the adapter out, it does not power on. Its a Thinkpad T23 and it looks like a 3rd party power adapter. There is an LED light on the adapter that stays green whenever it is plugged into the wall. It used to stay that way even when it was plugged into the computer. Now, the LED light constantly flashes as soon as I plug it into the computer. With the battery in or out, the computer will not power on if plugged into the wall.

Anyone have some ideas on what be going wrong? It seems odd that the battery would have drained between lunch and getting home, because I'm 90% sure I turned it off and unplugged everything. Does it seem like the battery, CMOS battery or power adapter?

does the LED on the adapter flash even when the adapter isn't plugged into the computer?

sounds like the adapter though

1. The cheapest thing would be to try another adapter.
2. If it's not the adapter, my next guess would be system board.

The ac adapter could have went bad and you were then running on the battery.

no, if it is plugged into the wall, it just stays green until it is plugged into the computer, where it starts quickly flashing. It also makes a squeaking noise with each flash.

That to me, would point to the system board, but I would still try a different adapter first.

update. OK, so the it works now, so long as it is plugged into the wall. However, as soon as I unplug it, it cuts off. I've got two batteries, and it recognizes the batteries, but doesn't charge them and can't run off them. Any ideas? I'm assuming its something wrong with the battery connector or its wiring.

Right off I'd say bad battery... but since you have two and I assume you've tried each one individually... I still say system board.
