Kobe Suspended again

He drew his 2nd one game suspension of the year the other night for an ill advised shot to the face. I dunno if this was intentional, but after the first incident he surely could watch how he flails. Now at 400k+ in fines cause he can't "control" his arms.

rkmsuf 03-09-2007 12:18 PM

what a fool that guy is

Well some might say he can't control his "3rd" arm either.

MikeVic 03-09-2007 12:39 PM

They asked Reggie Miller about this, and he seemed to side with Kobe. As you know, Reggie flailed his legs to draw a foul. And he says that was intentional, but it never got a fine.

Kobe does this since it seems to really be part of his natural shot. If the ref didn't give him a flagrant in the game, the NBA shouldn't undermine the refs by suspending Kobe after the fact.

That's what Reggie says, and as much as I dislike Kobe, I agree with him.

Maybe that's exactly it... Kobe just can't control his limbs. They just flail around randomly like the boss at the end of a Resident Evil level.

None of this has been his fault!

So if a guy punches someone in the face and none of the refs see it then he shouldn't get suspended the next day?

stevew 03-09-2007 01:18 PM

One thing I don't get, is if the Ref sees that he did this, and decides it's an offensive foul then why the hell doesn't the ref throw his ass out of the game, like he should for that type of contact. Or at the minimum at least give him a flagrant. NBA Refs suck, and they suck more and more each year.

stevew 03-09-2007 01:20 PM

dola-

Reggie Miller is trying to get back into the league(supposedly) so I doubt he's going to say anything controversial at this point.

The NBA is all about star appeal and catering to the fans. The fans don't want to see Kobe kicked out of the game so the refs call the foul and let the league handle the real punishment. The league sets the expectations this way and it isn't really up to the refs to change it. Refs are employees of the league just like the players are.

Actually in the two incidents this year, both players that were hit said that they didn't believe it was an intentional shot to the face and that Kobe shouldn't be suspended.

Tons of players try to create contact on a shot. This goes back to one my favorite NBA names. World B Free used to kick his legs out and try and hit the defender to create contact and get a foul. It probably goes back further than him.

So why isn't there this derth of footage of players being hit in the face by a shot follow through?

Total BS if you asked me to say this is part of "his shot". Bull. This is part of him being an asshat.

Further, he is a good enough player not to have to do this type of thing.

That's your opinion and that's great. As far as I'm concerned this thread is now about World B Free.

Hey, Brad!

stevew 03-09-2007 02:18 PM

Poorly written on my part. I mean if the refs see it and don't decide to give him a flagrant. I was trying to say that the NBA Office shouldn't undermine refs like that. But they suck, so maybe they have to heh.

larrymcg421 03-09-2007 02:19 PM

So let's say we give Kobe the complete benefit of the doubt. If Kobe can't control the way he flails, he's not as physically talented as we all thought he was. If it is part of his shot, then he needs to change his shot. He can keep complaining, but it will be his own fault if he's out during an important playoff game because he couldn't figure out how to stop this.

He said he flailed his legs on purpose to draw contact and a foul... if he comes back I'd think refs will remember this.

I'm just saying that there is no way he would say anything negative towards kobe, no point in reggie trying to burn bridges when he's possibly trying to get back in and get a ring.

King of New York 03-09-2007 02:41 PM

World B. Free wasn't nothin' but a miniaturized, more talented version of the one and only Granville Waiters.

Granville would have never hit an opposing player in the face while taking his shot.

Come to think of it, he never took shots.

I actually took an opposite view. If someone like Jaric takes a shot and upon the follow through hits someone in the face, I expect to see them thrown out of the game as well. I have see a lot of guys get hit in the face this year. Many were accidental, many IMO were attempts to draw a call. None resulted in a suspension. Now if the suspension were based on the idea that the league does not want guys trying to fool the officials into believing a foul had occurred, I am all for it.

stevew 03-10-2007 06:54 AM

So what's he do last night, but elbow Kyle Korver in the face. Seemed a bit more "accidental" than the other two flailings. All I know is Troy Murphy or Chris Kaman better watchout.

dime 03-10-2007 10:54 AM

coach k and billy packer want you to know that the real victim in all of this is kobe...a damn shame.
