Little help with Windows Media/Audio, please.
I tried to open up IHOF Radio, a mp3, this morning, and I got this:
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly. Not sure what to make of it or what I should be doing next. |
I had this happen before on my parents computer. The simple answer is that sometimes you need to stop the windows audio service (run services.msc) and then restart it.
That worked on theirs but you had to redo it everytime you booted up. I don't remember how I ended up solving it...try googling the problem cuz i'm sure that's what I did and somewhere on some message board was a solution. |
This happens because you touch yourself

Sound is working now...time to try windows media player again.

I appear to have sound if I open something up immediately...and I have access to those sounds until I close the program.
For example, two logins ago I logged into myspace immediately and was able to listen to the music I have there. I could also open up my volume control with no issues. A minute later, I wasn't able to hear anything from other programs, and my volume control said, "There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware. This program will now close." However, I could still listen to the songs on myspace. So I rebooted, and tried AIM with wademoore this time. I can hear the noises associated with AIM when messages are sent and received...once I closed the program and tried again, no joy. |
sounds like what happened to me. Google I tell you...the answer is out there. I just don't remember what it was.

Count this as really weird:
I may have fixed the problem...by updating the built in webcam's driver. Heh. Like I ever use that. |
