I got all irresponsible, AKA it's a new car!

I figure this may be the last chance I'll have in my life where I can just get all stupid and splurge on things I don't really need. So I bought this:

2005 Mustang GT, 4200 miles.

Cue anti-American car rants. But I've had my eye on one of these since their release in 05. Still need to finalize a couple things before I can drive it home, but I signed off on it today.

It instantly becomes my Spring to Fall car. Currently I'm driving a 99 Wrangler that'll become my winter vehicle. If I didn't have a 4 wheel drive vehicle to drop back on this purchase would have been pretty much an impossibilty to me.

SackAttack 03-24-2007 11:47 AM

That upholstery is garish. :p

Lathum 03-24-2007 11:48 AM

I like the car but I'm not crazy about the red interior.

jeff061 03-24-2007 11:49 AM

I didn't like the red at all when I first started looking a year ago, but it grew on me to the point of being neutral on it.

And to be perfectly honest it looked real nice in person, defintely better than the photo, which I wasn't expecting. Doesn't look as bright and it's leather.

Franklinnoble 03-24-2007 11:55 AM

I would have gone for the convertible. We rented the new Mustang a few times on vacation - it's a nice car.

sterlingice 03-24-2007 12:01 PM

Even with the red interior, very pretty car :D

SI

jeff061 03-24-2007 12:08 PM

Hehe, I understand the red comments completely :).

As for the convertible, I really wanted one. My Wrangler has a soft top and I LOVE driving around in the summer with the doors off and top down, I'm going to miss it.

But in the end I decided to get it cheaper, without a convertible. On the plus side it performs better without the convertible top, since the motor to get that thing up and down weighs a couple hundred pounds.

bbor 03-24-2007 12:27 PM

Looks to be leaking something underneath :D

Swaggs 03-24-2007 03:32 PM

Sounds like a good get with it being a couple years old and having that little mileage. :)

cartman 03-24-2007 04:26 PM

If that red was tan or dark brown, it'd look 1000% better, at least to me. But the new Mustangs are nice cars. I like the retro-70s look of the gauges.

Plus points for being a manual..

I would have had to flog you sir if it was an automatic. Sports cars with automatics are like hot girls without vaginas. Fun to look at but, really can't enjoy them to their fullest...

JeffNights 03-24-2007 05:06 PM

Vroom-Vroom!!

Its a damn Solid Car Too.

Bought my Jeep with a manual, drove it home from the dealer having never used one before, that was a fun couple weeks :).

Now I don't ever see myself getting an automatic again until I'm an old man in a big boat of a car.

Red Leather in a black car is pretty awesome. I'd do it in red or purple actually. Good deal

MrBug708 03-24-2007 07:40 PM

Dola

Im probably biased in the colors because I feel in love with a 67 mustang that was black with red interior

Karlifornia 03-24-2007 09:21 PM

The colors are cool! Don't listen to the schadenfreude of these people.

The convertible is just little too loud though. We rented one for our Honeymoon.

Nice car. I've got an '04 Mustang, the last of the old body styles. I love the new look and wish the totaling of my old car had happened a few months later to enable me to get the new body style, but I have had a ton of fun with my 'Stang. Enjoy!

jeff061 03-25-2007 04:03 PM

As an aside, if anyone wants any car fax reports let me know :).

MrIllini 03-25-2007 04:19 PM

wait until the new camaros come out :)

Izulde 03-25-2007 04:38 PM

I like the red myself.

BTW, not to threadjack, but what would be the sports car with the best handling?

Miata

seriously

jeff061 03-25-2007 04:52 PM

Yeah, there really isn't any other cars like the Mustang in it's price range.

My father's got one. Damn thing's like a go-cart. At 6'3 it's a comical sight seeing me in it, and even more hilarious seeing my entry and exit.

cubboyroy1826 03-25-2007 05:19 PM

Very nice car and i do love the interior. Here is the one i am waiting on. Should be able to pick this up right about the time my son is ready to drive and he will take over my 2006 Rav4.

Either this one or the orange convertible

jeff061 04-01-2007 12:08 PM

Having picked this up yesterday after a week of painful waiting and driven it all over the place the last 24 hours. I just have to say, "God damn..."

Yes, life is sweet :). Until the deluge of upcoming speeding tickets and the insurance hikes they bring force me to sell it that is.

I am an old man. I used to feel this way, but after my last manual I decided it would be my "last manual." I'm just to old to work that hard to drive. The new auto's (especially with the 6 speed trans that you can manually shift) are so much better than they used to be.
