Football Manager Live

Football Manager Live is a new concept in football (soccer to you guys) management. Put your managerial skills to the test in a 'real-time' environment where you compete live and online against your friends or rivals.

Ragone 04-20-2007 04:47 AM

ooh,i know its way early.. but any idea on a cost? monthly cost? etc?

Marc Vaughan 04-20-2007 07:03 AM

Monthly cost etc. for the game haven't been set yet (they can't be realistically until server costings etc. are finalised).

Don't expect it to break the bank though ... it'll be something realistic.

Passacaglia 04-20-2007 07:06 AM

404 not found?

Great, I just got to work half an hour ago, and I already need new pants.

FrogMan 04-20-2007 07:19 AM

holy moly, I think you guys have just killed what little was left of my interest in hattrick...

Very, very interesting...

FM

Eaglesfan27 04-20-2007 07:27 AM

I'm also highly intrigued. This could be what it takes to really suck me back into the FM scene.

My guess:

5 British pounds a month, which, by early 2008, will equal 300 US dollars.

This game is ideal for those with time constraints (women, kids, jobs) who want to dip in and out, get SMS messages when on the move to stay abreast of the latest developments in their world.

SirFozzie 04-20-2007 12:35 PM

Yes please.

Just signed up for the beta. Hopefully the Marcs can find a home for us FOFCers on it :)

Young Drachma 04-20-2007 12:56 PM

Wow. Well played guys. Should be interesting.

DaddyTorgo 04-20-2007 02:54 PM

oh sweet jesus!

flere-imsaho 04-20-2007 02:59 PM

WHY MUST YOU COVET MY FREE TIME SO?!?!

Yeah, looks awesome. Damn you, Duffy.

DaddyTorgo 04-20-2007 03:00 PM

bah. i don't think i have access to the email i used to register on the SI forums a ways back anymore. least...i can't remember the damm password, although it was something ST-related i remember that.

hafta wait till i get home

kingfc22 04-20-2007 03:05 PM

OH YES!!!

Leonidas 04-20-2007 03:08 PM

I deliberately go out of my way to avoid playing FM as I know if I start another dynasty I'll start yelling at my children and complaining to my wife every time she yells, "Time for dinner!"

Marc Duffy 04-21-2007 01:55 AM

This is right up your street then. Dip in and out as you see fit

bhlloy 04-21-2007 02:19 AM

So no option to enter a real world universe with real life teams and competitions? That is going to kill any interest in this for me, although it does look very intriguing.

Marc Duffy 04-21-2007 02:55 AM

I was exactly the same when we first talked about the concept a few years ago.

I am now converted.

All I will say is give it a chance, you might be surprised.

Icy 04-21-2007 03:47 AM

Awesome news, good bye HT, let's play a real manager with real tactics.

Btw, the Spanish redirection is not working, when i go to http://www.footballmanagerlive.com i'm sent to a 404 error page. I had to manually add the /en/ at the end of the url to be able to login.

WVUFAN 04-21-2007 03:53 AM

I know next to nothing about soccer, but this looks VERY interesting.

I wish SI would consider giving American football a shot.

MrBug708 04-21-2007 10:07 AM

It almost seems like this will make people into a better single player FM player because it looks like you will have to adjust tactics on the fly

MrBug708 04-21-2007 10:08 AM

Dola...

How much do I have to pay the Marc's to get in on the beta?

MrBug708 04-21-2007 10:13 AM

Double Dola

By the looks of the game, different countries will be in each of the standings, I'm guessing player nationalities wont matter

MrBug708 04-21-2007 10:16 AM

Triple Dola

I just noticed that you can bet, so I wonder if we can tank on purpose for the idea of winning money?

MrBug708 04-21-2007 10:18 AM

Quadrople Dola

March 2008? *sigh* Such a long time...

We'll see... any particular reason you guys decided not to go with this?

If six months down the line, the demand is there is the game set up in a way that you could set up a "real" universe?

Good gracious! But that's . . . that's . . . 925 Canadian Dollar!?!?!!!!

For one fictional players allows them to take more liberties with stuff such as drug usage.. suspensions etc.. for another thing.. i'm betting it would have been a licensing and logistic nightmare

JeeberD 04-21-2007 05:58 PM

Would someone who's never played FM be able to pick this up pretty easily, or would there be a steep learning curve?

Very easily imho - the idea is to make it much easier to pick up and play than our normal games ..

Desnudo 04-21-2007 08:36 PM

My question is:

What's a lateral thigh trainer?

That's good news. My one attempt at FM was downloading the demo and being instantly overwhelmed. The interface is just a bit different than FOF... ;)

No - not really.

We looked at all the other games that went online in this genre, they all have failed and we of course didn't want that. We've looked at the reasons behind it and we (Ov Collyer really) came up with this concept.

Schmidty 04-22-2007 02:45 AM

If you are able to allow this skeptical FM guy into the beta, and are able to convince him, then you will have an amazing game.

I am very suspicious, but where do I sign up for beta?

ISiddiqui 04-22-2007 04:01 AM

Wow... maybe an FOFC league could be set up ;).

Neuqua 04-22-2007 01:43 PM

Hah, I refused to not be a part of this start up!

flere-imsaho 06-15-2007 12:55 PM

I was looking at some previews for this and noticed that one of the "quirks" is that you're only able to sign (most players over 19) to contracts that last a month. Seems a bit weird - what's the rationale for that?

This is because the game runs in real world time not 'game time' - as such a league season is (in the alpha game world) 28 days in length.

As such a 'month' is quite a long time in the game .... also bear in mind that you can auto-protect (ie. extend) a few players contracts in your team each time they expire ... you just have to choose which ones wisely.

You WILL find FML a little strange if you come into it expecting it to be 'FM Online' - its a different game and although similar isn't a 'simulation' of the football world in the same way as FM itself ...

flere-imsaho 06-15-2007 01:08 PM

Ah OK, that makes more sense. Thanks!

sachmo71 06-15-2007 01:23 PM

Any chance you could resurrect Eastside into an online community? No stealing problem then!!
