PING: RPG players

A couple of weeks ago, there was a discussion about setting up a game, either Play By Post or using something like OpenRPG to do some D20 Dungeons and Dragons.. is there still interest in doing something like that? My preferred method would be to run a game on the weekends using OpenRPG, a game called XCrawl.

If you need them, books (on PDF) can be supplied :)

If we get 4-6 folks, I think we could do it. Any interest?

sachmo71 04-28-2007 05:27 PM

time commitment?

ditto

Schmidty 04-28-2007 06:48 PM

I'd be down if it was not a huge time sink.

WVUFAN 04-28-2007 06:52 PM

I'd be up for a game like that.

hoopsguy 04-28-2007 07:06 PM

Maybe in June, but May would be very tough for me. If the first effort is a go I would be interested in giving this a try at some later date.

SirFozzie 04-28-2007 08:21 PM

It'd be a few hours a weekend, on either a Saturday or a Sunday, depending on what works for folks.

Blade6119 04-28-2007 08:36 PM

Id be interested, but i have 0 experience in the traditional D20 universe

SirFozzie 04-28-2007 08:42 PM

No Problem, Blade, as I said, I can supply the Xcrawl stuff on PDF if you want to look it over.

KWhit 04-28-2007 10:12 PM

I might be interested, depending on the time frame.

Blade6119 04-28-2007 10:21 PM

Then id say sign me up foz, as long as my inexperience doesnt hinder the team im up for it

SirFozzie 04-28-2007 10:25 PM

ok, let me find my pdf's and you can read em over :)

Tyrith 04-28-2007 10:28 PM

I might also be interested, although probably not until sometime mid June or so. I have some passing experience with D&D old school (Icewind Dale, might be playing BG2 sometime soon) but no live experience.

KWhit 04-28-2007 10:31 PM

When are you thinking about scheduling the sessions? You mentioned weekends, but when? During the day? Night?

SirFozzie 04-28-2007 10:34 PM

Late afternoon Eastern,. to evenings

SirFozzie 04-28-2007 10:56 PM

I'm uploading the file right now.

Schmidty 04-28-2007 10:59 PM

So if we have an official list, I definitely want to be on it.

SirFozzie 04-28-2007 11:04 PM

You're in Schmidty :)

File is up:

I started reading through the XCrawl book. That seems pretty fun. I want in.

Any chance we can start at 8 Eastern, though? I know that's kind of late, but I'm usually putting the kids to bed until about then.

Vince 04-29-2007 01:15 PM

I'd love to, I just don't have the time. Good luck guys!

Ditto - just starting to gear up for finals, and the last thing I need is another time committment. However interesting it looks.

SirFozzie 04-29-2007 02:30 PM

For those folks who can't do it in May, and depending on how this turns out, we can probably do a 2nd game.

It's fine by me, Kwhit, but it depends on what everyone's schedule is.

SirFozzie 04-29-2007 07:05 PM

Looks like we have the following players so far:

Schmidty
KWhit
Blade6119

That means we have at least 1 spot, and up to 3 available.

All classes from the PHB are allowed (and yes, you can multiclass), you will be 5th level characters.

You will be taking on DJ WildWolf and BostonCrawl, a relatively new event on the DungeonCrawl scene, along with five other teams. You will be judged on total time it takes to complete level one, with time bonuses awarded for finding secret rooms and completing various challenges along the way, and time penalties assessed for failed challenges and adventurer deaths.

The top three teams by time, will advance to the 2nd level. Your time WILL carry over, from level 1 to level 2.

The top timed-team will take on the Championship Level of Boston Crawl..

There are rewards beyond imagining waiting for you in the dungeons created by WildWolf, but there is also dangers beyond imagining. And don't forget, in XCrawl, if you die, you die!

KWhit 04-29-2007 08:17 PM

Cool. I hope everyone else is okay with starting around 8:00.

I think I want to play a bard. I've never played one before, but it seems perfect for this game.

SirFozzie 04-29-2007 08:38 PM

Cool.

WVUFAN 04-29-2007 09:11 PM

I'm interested.

Blade6119 04-29-2007 09:14 PM

So when is the start date we are looking at?

SirFozzie 04-29-2007 09:39 PM

If we can get everything set up, next weekend, but I'm sure that we'll have some hiccupps at first.

You'd be #4 WVUFan :)

Izulde 04-29-2007 11:18 PM

Check back with me in June. I'm busy with end of semester stuff until mid-May and then I have to job hunt for the summer since it doesn't look like I got the Princeton Review internship I was hoping for.

So how is combat handled on the forum. With the emphasis v3 (and 3.5) have on using miniatures and tracking characters' positions, movement speed, etc, how can that be simulated online?

Or is some of that detail just ignored/glossed over in online games?

SirFozzie 04-30-2007 11:54 AM

we're going to use an online program called OPenRPG (or Something similar) that does that for us.

Oh, cool. I didn't know it went that in-depth. I've never played an online game like this before.

SirFozzie 05-01-2007 01:51 PM

I'm using a free program called "ScreenMonkey Lite" to generate the maps, you guys won''t need to download anything (if it works)

KWhit 05-01-2007 01:55 PM

How/when will we need to create characters?

SirFozzie 05-01-2007 02:00 PM

We're going to use Irony.Com's dice roller to generate your character's basic stats:

http://www.irony.com/mailroll.html

with the following options

Roll 4 6-sided dice, and drop the lowest, 7 times (it's the default option)
For the Subject of the email, put (Your Name)'s XCrawl Rolls
Put in your email
and in the also send to field put in SirFozzie AT gmail DOT com

You will then be able to arrange your statistics as you see fit (don't forget you'll get a +1 stat bonus at Level 4)

Draft Dodger 05-01-2007 02:15 PM

I'd really be interested, but it will depend a bit on when (and how long) the sessions will be

KWhit 05-01-2007 02:15 PM

I just rolled mine.

Roll 1: 4, 5, [1], 5 = 14.
Roll 2: 4, 6, 5, [1] = 15.
Roll 3: 6, [1], 4, 5 = 15.
Roll 4: [4], 6, 5, 5 = 16.
Roll 5: 4, [3], 3, 5 = 12.
Roll 6: [3], 3, 4, 5 = 12.
Roll 7: 4, [2], 5, 3 = 12.

We're looking at a weekend evening (Saturday or Sunday), starting around 8 PM Eastern, and going 3-4 hours.

Yup. Got that. Lucky bastard, looks like your bard (if that's what you still want) will be pretty good, all around :)

WVUFAN 05-01-2007 02:26 PM

Just sent my dice rolls off to you, Fozzie. They suck. :(

SirFozzie 05-01-2007 02:34 PM

Well, at least none of are 9 are below (remember, you can drop one of the 10's because you roll 7 times for six stats).

Looks like your guy would be a fairly decent single purpose guy (something like fighter, sorceror or thief)

Woot! Yeah, I want to try a bard out.

Will we be using an online character sheet? Should we plan on trying to get that done before our first session?

KWhit 05-01-2007 02:37 PM

Join up, DD!

Draft Dodger 05-01-2007 02:38 PM

I'd like to be in

You're in, DD.

There are Online 3.5 sheets, I'm not sure where they are right now, but check out rpgsheets.com, they probably have some for you.

Draft Dodger 05-01-2007 02:43 PM

here's mine. can I trade with KWhit? :)

Roll 1: 3, 2, 2, [1] = 7.
Roll 2: 5, 3, [1], 5 = 13.
Roll 3: [2], 6, 6, 3 = 15.
Roll 4: [1], 5, 3, 3 = 11.
Roll 5: 5, [1], 5, 1 = 11.
Roll 6: 5, [3], 6, 3 = 14.
Roll 7: [1], 3, 6, 2 = 11.

KWhit 05-01-2007 02:46 PM

That's not bad since you get to drop the 7.

Draft Dodger 05-01-2007 02:51 PM

maybe I like the 7 and want to keep it!

Put it in intelligence and rollplay it. That'll be fun.
