Boondock Saints

Let's hear it...one of my favorite movies, but a lot of my friends can't stand it.

Sublime 2 05-05-2007 03:21 AM

dola

And what about thoughts on a second movie, with the MacManus brothers and father Il Duce?

This movie is love it or hate it. I think it's shit. Watch Goodfellas and then watch this right after.

I was talking about this movie with a co-worker just yesterday and we both liked it a lot. Goodfellas is in our Netflix queue I can hardly wait!

Honolulu_Blue 05-05-2007 07:13 AM

It's ok. I've only seen it once and that was a long time ago, though it was back in the day when I was really into those kind of violent, stylized films. I didn't think it was that great, but I forget why.

Draft Dodger 05-05-2007 07:20 AM

overrated crap

I'm a HUGE fan of Boondock Saints, but I'm also a big-time homer for Irish themed stuff...

terpkristin 05-05-2007 07:54 AM

Definitely one of my top movies, but one I forget about...

I remember liking it but being disappointed at the same time. My brother had raved about the movie all week before I saw it, so I guess I expected something more than I got.

fans of the movie really need to see the documentary Overnight. I think it may only be available through Netflix, but it's an amazing wastch. It's about the writer/director and it's surreal. It's basically the story of a dude's head getting way too big and alienating every single person around him.

Loved it. Not for the plot, but more for the way the story was told and the way the action sequences were shot.

Rocco was great. His "Shut your fat ass Rayvie, I can't buy a pack of smokes without runnin' into nine guys you've fucked!" line is one of my favorites. Not to mention the "I'll have a coke" joke which I won't repeat here. "Continue the joke...."

And the second movie has been "in production" for years. Let's see if it ever really happens.

I think this movie is barely watchable, but my limited experience is that watching it makes girls' pants fall down, so it has that going for it.

Tha'ts how I eventully saw it. The fiancee saw it first, loved the thing (which is wild since she's not a big fan of movies like this with lots of violence), and hence I'd see it next. It's not bad. Not great, but not bad.

Hear hear! That was a nice touch havign him in the mix. Otherwise it'd be a bit bland.

I don't understand the link between the two movies.

Grammaticus 05-06-2007 10:01 AM

Boondock Saints is a really good movie, but Goodfellas is a really great movie.

You should definately watch them both.

Right on the head.

I still don't get it. What is the correlation between the two movies? One is entirely about the mob, and the other has the mob as a minor part of the story.

Why are we comparing the two as if it's Goodfellas vs. The Godfather or Casino? Did Boondock try to be Goodfellas and I just missed it?
