Baseball Text Sim: There Can Be Only One!!!
Scenario: You own OOTP 2007, Baseball Mogul 2008, and Pure Sim 2007.
Suddenly, your hard drive has crashed, your backups are no good. But fate has rewarded you with a brand new hard drive. While your baseball text sim licenses are all lost, you find you have just enough cash in your pocket to buy just one back. Which one do you choose? |
You shouldn't have put it in that context. Although my choice would be OOTP, if I lost my computer and only had enough money in my pocket to buy a game, I'd probably choose none of the above and spend it elsewhere.
|
You should choose the one that you liked the most.
|
none. Though I would like to give a lot of credit to the Puresim developer who did this on his free time and all he got was a health condition. Oh, and a t-shirt.
|
ootp. and its not close.
|
Puresim. Pretty much an easy choice for me.
|
I buy Crusader Kings back.

You email me or Marc Duffy and we'd do our best to sort things out in OOTP land for you .... ;) |
puresim. I am curious how many people who voted for ootp have tried both bm 08 and ps 07 lastest version?
|
I have and it isn't close

I agree with this 100% |

none.
I'd buy FOF 2007 so that I can maintain in both IHOF and the GEFL. :) |
I really like baseball, but I dislike all three of those games.
|
I would email viatech to get my licenses back.

Demos. |
Except BM. I just hate that on principle and past experiences.
|
This poll was done for purely selfish reasons. I have been playing Baseball Mogul for years and only briefly playing OOTP 5 and 6. I tried the demo for OOTP 2007 and PureSim 2007 and was impressed by both. BM 2008 was the lead horse since I'm most familiar with it's predecessors, but I'm gonna give OOTP 2007 my money and see how it goes.
So far my only beef is the site recognizes that I'm in Germany and I must pay the EURO price vs the USD price. That's an extra 5 bucks. Now, I don't mind spending the extra cash to support the smaller developers, but SI is probably a Fortune 500 company by now. I feel dirty not fighting for my 5 bucks back. :) |
OOTP 6.51
|
I've actually been playing BM 2008.
|
Okay, I purchased OOTP 2007 and wanted to set up a MLB 2007 Universe. It's kind of tricky for newbies to do this, I think.

I don't want to rant here, but I fail to see how that's a beef for people (other people on other boards with other stuff too, not just you, so I won't go on cuz I don't want this to look like it's targeted). You're in a foreign country...you pay in foreign currency. doesn't matter what your paycheck is in, or where you're a citizen of. Just matters where you are at the moment. like I said, not a rant against you...just I dunno...don't really understand why it's an issue. |
Quote:
Well, I paid the five bucks if that's any indication of how serious of an issue it was for me. *shurg* |
20 pages into the OOTP 2007 manual and I haven't gotten out of the table of contents yet. Switching into reference manual mode....now.
|
I'd play a number of "replay"(i.e. non-career) sims before I'd even try BM. I mean it may have made progress, but IMO it's still pretty much a joke.

like I said, wasn't a statement about you Dutch. Just a general statement, more about bitching i've seen elsewhere on the internet. I hestitated a while before posting that actually, because I didn't want you thinking I was coming after you |
Quote:
No harm done, and I didn't think you were coming after me...unless you thought this was a POL thread, that would've been different. :) |
How about Strat-o-Matic baseball computer version? Has nayone played it recently? I tried the Diamond mind and the interface was total crap. It made TCY look like an exercise in application usability.

What do you think of it? I -almost- bought it the other day because I remember how much fun it was back in the day and OOTP 2K7 just isn't cutting it for me in terms of fun factor. |
Quote:
If you don't like OOTP2k7 I really doubt you will like BM08. |

Play the demo. Clay just released patch 10.25 and I haven't been able to test it yet. (The big issue was big time FA were not being resigned by their respective teams) It is what it is, a simplistic, extremely fast baseball text sim. I love the new almanac feature as well as how clean the interface has become. I hated version 2006, but so far.. 2008 has been fun, if a bit frustrating at times due to some bugs Clay is working on. I will give Clay credit so far, as he's really been sqashing reported bugs and I feel he's more involved this time around. There is a nice up to date roster, which makes immersion easy for me as well. |
Quote:
Mentioning up-to-date rosters. Puresim has a pretty good 60 man MLB roster that is for the 2007 season. |
