guess i can now post in the "parents anonymous" dynasty
About twenty months ago I posted on our troubles with having a child.
http://www.operationsports.com/fofc/...&highlight=IVF About three months later Tammy and I agreed to begin exploring adoption in earnest. Over the nex three months we attended an adoption conference locally, began reading books, magazine articles, and online content, and identified a target agency and adoption attorney. By summer we had completed all of our paper work, our photo album, and were in the rotation of candidates shown to birthmothers. Three months in, while vacationing in Europe for our five year anniversary, we got a call telling us that a couple wanted to meet with us to talk about being prospective adoptive parents for their child. But of course it wasn't going to be that easy. We knew that there was a significant risk that these people would decide to parent their child in lieu of putting it up for adoption, and that is exactly what happened. Fast forward to this Tuesday, where we got a call from the agency letting us know that there was a little girl in Springfield, IL waiting for us. The last few days have been a complete whirlwind, but we received word today that the birthmother has now signed the release paperwork, which is the last major step in the process. We still have a few remaining legal items to complete the process, but I'm confident enough that these will go through to start working on this: http://easysite.com/addisonelizabeth I want to thank everyone at FOFC who has talked with me both during the fertility stages and as we have gone through the adoption process. The first four days of parenting have been really, really great. I know that there are all kinds of life changes that will be coming about as a result of this, and I can't wait. |

I was a little concerned with going with a "trendy" first name in Addison - had no idea it was now as popular (28th) as it is when we picked it. So we wanted something a little more conventional as a middle name if she got a little older and hated the name Addison. Of course, I'm also prepared to tell her it could have been much worse - Apple comes to mind as a fairly recent celebrity choice :) |
We unintentionally went with 2 trendy names - Caitlin in 1999 and Mackenzie in 2004. I guess the only conventional thing is we went with the standard spellings and resisted the urge to use the 'y' in Caitlin or use the last name-type spelling of Mackenzie.

My father adopted a baby a few years ago, and joked that he was going to name her "Schenectady." I'm afraid I never quite got the joke.

I have no idea how I missed this thread yesterday, but a hearty congratulations.
