Is it unnatural...
to have a Steak for breakfast? Not Steak and Eggs mind you, but just a piece of steak?
I had such a craving when I woke up this morning, defrosted a steak and a half, and added some spicy herbs. Good stuff, it hit the spot. Anyone else eat steak for breakfast? |
dola
I also cooked it first. Don't want to forget that part. |
I don't think it is any odder than eating Pizza for breakfast, so no. But with cravings like that are you sure you aren't pregnant?
|
I can't say that I've ever had a steak for breakfast, but it doesn't seem so far-fetched. Personally, I've never really understood why some food is considered "breakfast food." I guess maybe there are some nutritional considerations in there, as some foods are probably high in nutrients that are needed at the start of the day. Still, if you want a steak, man, eat a steak.
While I've never had steak for breakfast, I had meat for breakfast this morning. I wanted to have meat for lunch, too, but he had to go home to wait for the DirecTV guy to show up. |

Sissy. |
I never understood the artificial grouping of foods into breakfast/lunch/dinner.
Also, when did Pumpy start challening The Afoci? |

Well, I have been moodier lately, and my breasts have been somewhat tender now that you mention it. Quote:
It'd probably offend you more if I told you that it was not cooked on any type of grill, but on a stovetop. My gf hid the grill on me. |
Shit, this is like the third time today that I've thought "I can't believe what's coming out of my mouth."

 Dude... |
So, she's not your gf anymore, riiiiiiiiiiiight?

Depends. If what he meant by "cook" was: "I started up my truck, defrosted the steak, waved it briskly over the engine block, and then ate it." then it's probably OK. Quote:
On the other hand, SkyDog could be right. Quote:
Well, that's better than the other way around. Anyway, it's not unnatural to have steak for breakfast. It may be unusual, but remember, it's also not unusual to be loved by anyone. |

This may sound nuts, but I do most of my steaks in the oven now. Put iron skillet in oven, pre-heat to 500 deg. F, take out skillet put on stovetop burner 30 seconds a side to sear, and then in the oven for 2.5 minutes each side for medium rare (assuming 1" thick steaks). Mmmmm... I never do steaks on the grill anymore. |

Yep, yer nuts. |

You forgot to mention the neat effect of clouds of smoke in your kitchen from this technique. :p |
Broiling a steak in an oven is acceptable, as long as you use some variation of the high-heat/short time method outlined by Warhammer above.
Ruths Chris uses a broiler for its steaks, and its filets are almost as tender as butter. |

I've never had the problem with that, check that, once I did have an issue. Much of that probably has to do with the oil you use to lightly coat the steaks. Never use olive oil, always use veggie oil, higher smoke point. For those that have not tried it, try it just once and see how they come out. |
I want a steak

This has fascinated me ever since our first son was born. Before that, I had not really realized how much our brains are hardwired as to what is acceptable to eat at certain times of day. Kids don't have these restrictions in their brains, not yet at least... FM |

The beauty of the method is that you can cook steaks EXACTLY the way you want them. I've always been a great griller and cook, but steaks were always a little iffy on the way they came out, med. rare, med., too rare, etc. With the high-heat/short time method, they come out consistently the way you want them. |

You and me both. I hate breakfast food nazi's. "OMG!!11!1!! You're going to eat THAT for breakfast?" Piss off. |
I only eat steak for breakfast on 'Steak and Bj' day.
|
Since I consider it to be acceptable to eat waffles for dinner, I'd be some kind of strange if I didn't find it acceptable to eat steak for breakfast. For me, that'd never work, as I'm usually starving when I get up and it takes too damn long to cook something like that, but that's the only thing that I think would stop me.
Meanwhile, did you do a lot of exercise or otherwise overexert yourself in the past few days? When I finally realized I should transition from being a vegetarian to being a meat-eater again, it was mostly because after hard workouts (in my case, a couple of karate tournaments), I was craving chicken--after not having craved any meat for 6 years. Even now, after a heavy lifting day or a long cardio day, I find I want eggs or something for breakfast instead of my standard granola or oatmeal... /tk |

LOL! |
I eat pancakes every now and then for supper.

Steak for breakfast? *Tim Allen grunt*
Steak in the oven? *bleegh* |
I eat a bowl of Captain Crunch at around 2 am most nights.

+1 Broiled steaks are gooood. |
Broiled meat in general is good. Not to mention it is healthier.
|
Yeah, what's with the broiler hate? It seems fine to me.

LOL. I know it is stupid but I found this funny. |

Must be after the 1:30 am Joint. |
Yeah, but the Ruth's Chris steaks are cooked on a 1600 degree infrared broiler. You'd be hard pressed to find that in a home kitchen.
