Ping: Atlanta Residents
 

So I ordered a few shirts from a store down in Atlanta(distant replays) and they sent the wrong shirt (rest of the stuff is great). The shirt they mistakenly sent instead is of the same value and it's fine but not as good as the one I wanted, definately not worth the cost to send it back and get it reshipped. Now the interesting part is I have a buddy who is going down to Clemson and is getting picked up at the Atlanta-Hartsfield-Jackson airport.

What I want to know is how much trouble will it be for him to swing over to this store then head out to Clemson. His flight comes in at 630 pm on thursday and the store is at 2980 cobb pkwy near the intersection of I 285 and I 75. I don't know which way they plan on heading out to Clemson but I'd guess I85 from looking at a map. Also it may be possible to swing by on his way back to the airport, would that be easier (it'd be for 1 pm flight)?
How much beer would such a diversion cost?

Sounds like a pretty good PITA to me. Cobb Pkwy is at the top end of the Perimeter(285), while the airport is near the bottom end of the Perimeter, about 30 miles away.

Plus, assuming they're going up 85N to go up to Clemson, you're sending him about 15 miles out of the way each way (he'd have to skip the 85 exit & either go around or take 75N through downtown to get to Cobb Pkwy).

And given the uncertain state of traffic in/around Atlanta, I'd really hate to be taking any sort of detour if I was trying to catch a plane at Hell, I mean Hartsfield.

You want the honest truth? There's not enough beer brewed in the world annually to get me to run that particular errand. YMMV, depends on how much your buddy likes beer I guess.

Getting from the airport to Cobb Parkway at 630pm? He could probably get to Alabama faster.

Major pain in the ass. During rush hour, suicidal.

He might be able to go faster by going Alabama to Chattanooga & then going to Atlanta, at least he'd be going against traffic ;)

In case anybody wondered, I discounted the rush hour aspect of things since:
-- scheduled in at 630 often means landing at 7 or later
-- plus another 15-20 minutes to get to the gate
-- plus another 10 or more to deplane
-- plus another half hour to an hour to get through the airport, collect luggage, etc.

I figured with a 630p scheduled arrival, there's not much chance he's on the road until at least 730p, probably later, which should ease the rush hour impact quite a bit ... unless there's one of the frequent 285 "red alert" traffic jams.

FWIW, Distant Replays closes at either 7 or 6 depending on the day, so there's no chance of getting there with a 6:30 landing at Hartsfield. Depending on how much time he has to spare coming back, it might not be too bad on the way back - take 285 around rather than 85 through the center.

Or just take 285 to 75 and then take 75 down to the connector and the airport... not horrible. Just a bit of a pain. Depending on the day for the 1 PM flight he's coming back, it may not be all that much of an issue at all.

That sucks - I had Distant Replays personalize a jersey for me and they did an unbelievably good job. I dealt directly with the owner and he was a class act all around.

I would totally agree with that. I would certainly buy from them again, eventhough it's a pain in the butt for international orders with having to order by money order and with duty and exchange. I'm pretty surprised that they mixed up the one shirt because they called (Andy did and I think he's the owner) and said that, that perticular shirt ran small so I should go up a size, I'm guessing one of those mind somewhere else mistakes.

Thanks for the input everyone, I'm pretty sure he'd do it if I asked but it sounds like it ain't worth the hassle. I was hoping Atlanta was one of those reasonable for traffic cities.

Well, now that the tears have stopped streaming down my face, I have to thank you for such a great laugh.

Arguably, only LA is worse, although Forbes Magazine recently reported that Atlanta is actually 4th worst, behind LA, SF, and DC.

What a class act

Having lived in either LA or Atlanta for the great majority of my life, my opinion is that overall LA traffic is worse, simply because the traffic can always be bad. I was in bumper to bumper traffic at 11:30 the other night due to nothing other than general congestion (no Dodger game, no concert, nothing).

That said, Atlanta rush hour traffic is worse than LA's because there are more ways to get places in LA (either surface street or other freeway). In Atlanta, you're pretty much stuck on the perimeter or the connector and SOL.

So the update.

Since shipping the item back from Canada isn't very cost effective, they are going to ship out the item I originally ordered and let me keep the one they mistakenly shipped. This kind of response kind of gives me hope for the customer service industry especially after dealing with some other stores. Their response has made me pretty stoked, maybe I'll actually get some research done!
