Only in Glasgow do suicide bombers need police protection

OK, so I know this isn't a light topic. And I know the Glasgow attack (Jeep into airport) was mentioned in the London thread but this thread is slightly on a tangent and awesome.

John Smeaton is a baggage handler at the airport and when the guy on fire jumped out of the jeep and attacked the police, he got involved. But what makes this post worthy is just the increadible stream of consciousness that comes out his mouth when he describes his involvement.

That and the Glasgow banter.

Quotes:
'If ye come tae Glasgow, Glasgow doesnae accept this, this is Glasgow, we'll set about ye'

"through my mind was going to help the policeman. You know? No letting these guys get away with this! you know? Whats the score? Got to go get this sorted, you know?"

"I wuz just tryin to land a kick on him y'know?"

"he was a big boy, he wisnae for goin' down but maself and other members of the public were putting the boot in on him and one guy banjoed him and he was down"

There's now a website devoted to him ( http://www.johnsmeaton.com/ ) and there are 1000 pints pledged, a campaign to rename the airport in his honour etc...

It might just be becuase I'm from Glasgow and it's funny to see local mannerisms on the news but I find this just hilarious...

That one really had me laughing. I keep imagining Mike Myers' Scottish soccer hooligan character from Saturday Night Live saying this.

This one will be used at the ball game tonight. Not sure how, but it may involve rushing the mound just to get a chance to use it.

I've no Idea what "Set about ye" or "Banjoed" means, but I've got an overwhelming desire to crack open a new bottle of Scotch.

Apparently SuperSmeato is going to face disciplinary action as part of his terms of employment say that he can't talk to the press about any incidents at the airport.

Personally I think they should give him a knighthood and name the airport after him, not demote him from senior baggage handler back to lowly baggage handler.

Another local pipes in I kicked buring terrorist so hard in the balls that I tore a tendon - but to be honest, that was the only good quote.

Heck yeah, they should promote him not demote him. So what if he talked to the press, who cares? I'm pretty certain there's not one person who isn't an airport 'official' is concerned that he commented about an incident at the airport.
