Bee 07-11-2007 11:27 AM

What's going to be the next release from Grey Dog Software?

cartman 07-11-2007 11:30 AM

And there is still time to join the FOFC-BBCF league as well! :)

We currently have Adam's MMA game, Brian's pro basketball and pro football all in the works right now.

Icy 07-11-2007 12:45 PM

You guys should try it again if you haven't for a while. Lots of bug fixes and new additions after a few patches made it a fully new experience.

It's funny you mention that, I was deleting a bunch of old games off my harddrive just last night and was planning on checking on patches and mods for this game over the weekend. Of course, after reading Radii's latest dynasty of FBCB, I might be torn on which game to resurrect. :D

Emiliano 07-11-2007 02:48 PM

Nice move, Arlie. I strongly encourage those who had never tried the game to do it. It's a very, very nice game. Oh, and the FOFC-BBCF is a great league by the way! ;)

Antmeister 07-11-2007 03:11 PM

Okay, I have to look at this game again. After talking with cartman about this recently, I am itching to join a college MP league.

If you join the league, I'm joining, too. That way, we can make your wife relay trash talk messages between us. That's what she seems to do for WOOF sometimes.

LOL! I'm sorry, I am not much of an IM guy. I tend to limit communication to phone and email. DC on the other hand does the texting, paging, phone, IM, PM, email, shoe phone, string on cans, etc.

Please, let's leave her cans out of this...

oh.

I was thinking more along the lines of SDSU in the Mountain West, but if there is a lot of competition in the Big 10, I may reconsider.

Oh, no you didn't. I am going to relay a message to DC when you are on IM again to discuss my disapproval of your most recent comments. :D

I believe it was $34.95.

Sounds more impressive now. ;)

Comey 07-11-2007 03:37 PM

Three good leagues out there I know of:

www.fofc-bbcf.com (Cartman's league)

www.gridiron-glory.net (Mark Cooley's league, has over 100 ADs, is part of TotalSportsWorld)

www.theacfa.net (Fictional collegiate league, feeds into NFLSim, part of TotalSportsWorld)

GG is the biggest, and most immersive league, I've ever been in (I may be biased, due to the radio show Mark and I do). Cartman's league is also very well run, and have built up a great history as well. The ACFA is new, which means you can get in on the ground floor and start from scratch.

I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Funny...I had just found the latest patch last night and downloaded it. I have seen this statement from others on the boards. I'm still debating whether I want to use conference movement - maybe on the lowest level.

Heyyyy, 4 cents cheaper than Maximum Football...

Kodos 07-11-2007 03:58 PM

What's the learning curve like on this game? Less formidable than FOF?

For me, I gotta go with cartman if I were to join. I am definitely biased, however. :D

It seems pretty straightforward to me. Gameplanning isn't particularly intuitive, and is actually kind of a pain in the ass to do yourself (but no more so than FOF).

AZSpeechCoach 07-11-2007 04:26 PM

But Ant, if you join this, who will read Modern Girl Friday? :D

st.cronin 07-11-2007 04:28 PM

Antmeister, join me and Groundhog in the Mountain West!

Is there a default/recommend for gameplans? I had the demo when it first came out but got busy and it timed out before I could do much with it.

I tend to enjoy building/maintaining a team rather than micromanage a gameplan.

st.cronin 07-11-2007 04:52 PM

Yeah, I think there are three or four default gameplans for offense and defense. Plus there are 5 or 6 team philosophies to choose from - smash mouth, option, run n shoot, etc. So that gives you 15-20 stock gameplans to run.

path12 07-11-2007 05:07 PM

Cool, thanks. I guess I'll have to pick this up next payday.

Neuqua 07-11-2007 05:13 PM

I'm going to try the demo, been looking for a college football game for a while.

LOL....that site will be my morning paper before I head off to coach my team to victory (okay, maybe I am exaggerating on actually winning much).

In addition to the gameplan replies, there's also a "task list screen" that links you to each item you need to deal with each week. It's a nice way for new players to quickly learn what each week entails. There's also options to set any of 9 individual items to be run by the AI or even turn off completely things like academics.

Kodos 07-12-2007 08:54 AM

Thanks for the info, guys.

Passacaglia 07-12-2007 09:50 AM

I love the offensive playbooks for gameplanning. I've kind of defaulted for defense, though.

Kodos 07-12-2007 09:55 AM

And the default gameplans work pretty well? So is it mostly a recruiting sim?

Dr. Sak 07-12-2007 09:57 AM

I usually default for the gameplanning but I'll set my own depth charts, manage my recruiting, and schedule the out of conference games.

Passacaglia 07-12-2007 09:58 AM

They work pretty well, but I think I can see a difference in the offense that I've used playbooks for.

bob 07-12-2007 10:13 AM

How many computers can you install this on with one purchase? I know the most recent version of FOF i have let you install on 2 machines.

2 licenses for every purchase.

You can install it on 2 PCs. However, you can "relicense". This means you unlicense it on one PC (through the control panel) and use that license on another. For instance, there are people that will unlicense their PC and license a family PC they use on vacation (and swap back after).

The goal here is to try to avoid multiple people using the same license. But, there are options for people that have 2-3 PCs (you just need to use the elicense control panel options).

SirFozzie 07-12-2007 10:35 AM

I should update the game and get back into FOFC-BBCF (that and FOFC-FBCB).. is BC still available?

A-Husker-4-Life 07-12-2007 10:36 AM

I use the playbook and pick the plays. It makes the game much better and you can target a guy you want to throw it to. Also, it saves your playbook every year so you don't have to recreate it.

Antmeister 07-12-2007 10:37 AM

Okay, I ended up playing the demo until 1:30 this morning. It took a little while to get used to getting around, but that task list does help out tremendously.

And I have to admit that I like the recruiting at the end of the season rather than during. Because I can easily see how there would just be too much to do in a MP enviroment if you had to do that all year round. In fact, the game did not feel tedious at all. The emails give a wealth of information and they are just informal enough to feel real.

Very, very impressed with how far this came from the last demo I played moons ago, so I am either going to purchase it today or tomorrow.

Cartman, I hope you have a spot open in your league and that the season didn't start yet, because I think I may take over the Aztecs and take on the likes of st.cronin and Groundhog.

Emiliano 07-12-2007 10:40 AM

Guys: this is the official list of teams. Sorry Foz, BC is claimed. But there are a lot of teams available.

I think your timing is perfect -- the first stage of recruiting is due Sunday.

recruiting is about to start so jump in quickly

SDSU is open too...previous owner jumped to Minnesota

Icy 07-12-2007 10:50 AM

Damn you Arlie and all the other posters. As i'm leaving for holidays on Monday and when i get back in August, NCAA08 will be waiting for me at the postman, i didn't want to start to play any serious text sim gamming but i can't resist, going to start a new dynasty right now.

Btw, i'm thinking again about joining the FOFC-BBCF league for my third time, i left it twice in the past so maybe the third will be the good one :D

Thanks for the info guys. I guess it is better to buy sooner than later then. The recruitng is what kept me up fo most of the night.

Antmeister 07-12-2007 11:39 AM

Oh and another question. Are you guys using the Bowl system or the bracketed playoffs?
