Actually, I'm sure this isn't difficult at all but...

When my computer starts up I hate the fact that Quicktime is running in the background with an icon on the bottom left. Now, before you tell me to do msconfig and uncheck Quicktime, I've done that and it still starts up when my computer boots up. I hate Quicktime but I can't uninstall it because Itunes uses it.

I also have the same problem with the language bar showing up on the task bar at startup. Why? What do I need this for?!?!! I'm going to fight my computer if someone doesn't help me!!!

the language bar should be turned off via right-click the task bar; toolbars; click the language bar.

make sure you have the taskbar unlocked.

as for quicktime, just right-click the icon and hit exit... or just let it run.

There is probably some sort of settings in QuickTime that you need to adjust to prevent it form starting up.

For the Language Bar...

-right-click on the question mark in your taskbar. Click Settings.
-left-click on the "Language Bar..." button.
-De-select the checkboxes "Show additional Language bar icons in the taskbar" and "Show the Language bar on the desktop."

I think that should get rid of it. As for Quicktime, there was a setting somewhere to hide the icon in the tray... but the thing will still load (just not be displayed). :mad:

I found this:


1) remove from startup list
2) Do a file search for qttask.exe
3) Rename all instances of qttask.exe to qttask2.exe
4) restart your computer Now qttask can't load, but won't generate an error message. You can still view .mov files just fine

Then look for the Tray Icon section and uncheck it.

Right, I know how to turn it off but I want it to be off all of them time so I don't have to do it every time I restart. I'm lazy, what can I say.

I've checked with no luck. I think even if I did find something that I thought would take care of it it didn't.

Yeah, and try out what I had written as well. I have Quicktime at work so I know it works.

There's a handy program called RegCure which, amongst other things, makes it easy to control what programs run on startup. Load it up and there's an option called "Control Startup". Click this and you get a list of all programs that run on startup and the option to enable/disable or remove any one.

It's free though it's one of those annoying programs that will tell you what's wrong with your PC - what garbage has built up over the years - but will only remove it if you register it.

However the control startup option is fully functional. Google it. Download it. See if that does it for you.

Using Office 2007 and Outlook, how do I allow for Outlook to be "closed" but still receive notification when new email(s) are received?

As it stands now, I either have to leave Outlook open (can I minimize this to the taskbar?) or keep checking Outlook periodically.

I'm assuming we haven't gone backwards in our technology and I am simply missing this setting!

There is no setting as far as I'm aware of, just minimize it.

There is something where you can have it in the system tray (the icons by the clock), and not show up in your taskbar. The icon will turn into an envelope when you receive a new e-mail. Part of the e-mail will also hover around the system tray for a bit.
