Arrgh (Or "God Has Decided My Daughter Shouldn't Drive")

Just got off the phone with my wife. Eldest daughter (stepdaughter really, but nevermind) flew back to Oklahoma to return to college today. She had been complaining about the lack of a car, so we (with the help of my mother) had found an old piece of rolling steel for her to drive. The car was in Fort Smith, Arkansas, so she flew into Ft. Smith today to pick up the car, and then my mom was going to follow her into Oklahoma City to make sure everything was okay.

I'm really glad she decided to do that, because as they pulled into Oklahoma City, the car my daughter's owned for two days (and has been in possession of for three hours) starts to smoke. Daughter pulls over to the side of the road and is hit by a car coming out of a parking lot.

Good news- daughter's okay.

Bad news- car is not okay. Even worse, my daughter was given a ticket for an "improper lane change". I'm planning on contesting. The car was pouring smoke from the hood, and both she and my mother (who was following in her own car) say my daughter put on her turn signal as she changed lanes.

The car's probably totaled, which will bring to 3(!) the number of cars my daughter has been driving when they were totaled. She's responsible for the first two, but honestly I don't think she's responsible for this one.

And I'm really pissed at the mechanic to whom we paid 900 bucks. He was supposed to make sure the car was driveable. I don't think he earned his money on this one.

Woah. Glad to hear she's OK, but that's some serious bad car karma there.

I see your daughter's transportation future...

How do you know it wasn't the Devil deciding that your daughter shouldn't drive? Isn't the Devil blamed when bad things happen and God takes credit when the good things happen? :)

Believe me, if the small town in Oklahoma where she goes to college had decent public transportation, I'd be all for it. As it is I think I'm going to send her $100 and tell her to buy a bike. Tough shit that she has to ride her bike to work in the winter. It's only a freakin' mile.

Where is it, NSU?

Get her some rollerblades and she can just hold onto the bumpers of cars headed in her direction. Hell, she can even hold onto the back of my trailer when I roll through town, especially helpful if she needs to go out of town.

A whole mile? Buy her an ipod and load it with songs such as:

Fats Domino - I'm Walkin'
Edwin Starr - 25 Miles
Bootsy Collins - Feets Don't Fail Me Now
Cannonball Adderley - Walk Tall
Nancy Sinatra - These Boots are Made for Walkin'
Parliament - Agony of Defeet

If your daughter would have learned to make money dog-fighting, then this kind of stuff wouldn't happen.
