Some tough NFL Trivia
1) Larry Centers became the third running back in NFL history with 6,000 career receiving yards, in 2001. Who were the first two?
2) Since the 1970 merger, who were the first pair of borthers drafted by the same NFL team? 3) Which U. of Texas DT was chosen Number 1 overall by the Patriots in 1982? 4) Who scored the Giants' only touchdown in Superbowl 35? 5) Which former quarterback led the Detroit Lions to their last NFL title, in 1957, and then later led the San Diego Chargers to their first AFL title in 1963? 6) Who was picked #2 overall in the 2001 NFL Draft, and by which team (Vick was #1 that year)? I think these are pretty tough.... |
guessing w/o the internet
1.) Roger Craig and Marshall Faulk 4.) Ron Dixon 6.) I can't believe I don't remember this |
Lets see:
1. (guesses) Roger Craig & Marcus Allen 3. Kenneth Sims. Bust 4. Not sure was a long kickoff return so I will guess Dixon 5. Bobby Layne baby 6. Leonard Davis- Cardinals |
1) Neither of you are correct on either of the answers.
2) 3) Ken Sims is correct (HFP) 4) Dixon is correct (alb) 5) no correct answers 6) Leonard Davis of Arizona is correct (HFP) |
1. Roger Craig and Thurman Thomas
|
#1 James Brooks and Chuck Muncie
#2 I forget names but I recall a pair of brothers who were offensive lineman going to lie New England or something... #5 Lance Alworth |
1) Still nobody has gotten even 1 of these correct.
2) The team was actually Tampa Bay. 5) Alworth is incorrect. |
The brothers are Lee Roy and Dewey Selmon, by Tampa.
The QB is probably Tobin Rote. |
Well, I know the answer to 1 now, but I looked it up on the internet. If anyone guesses that, I'll be very impressed.
|

Excellent Web, correct on both counts. Did you know these or did you look them up? |
#1 is the only unanswered question now.
|
I knew the Selmons, and semi-guessed Rote - knew he was an early Bolt, and thought he had had a decent NFL career previously.
Head crammed with useless stuff... |
Joe Washington and Eric Metcalf for number 1.
|
I'm stunned Roger Craig isn't the correct answer for #1. Youch.
How 'bout Ricky Watters? Keith Byars? Not Thurman Thomas either? I'm showing my age and complete ignorance of old-time football, aren't I? |
Really dumb question. Who is Larry Centers?
|
How about Lenny Moore? Keith Byars seems like a good guess to me too.

are you serious? He's one of the newer breed of fullbacks who can't do anything but catch. (also see: Richie Anderson - New York Jets) He's played with Arizona, Washington, and currently Buffalo He's led his team in # of catches a few times I believe. EDIT: he's number 9 ALL-TIME in receptions. |
1. Frank Gifford? was he techinically a RB or WR? I thought he played both, which could screw up his consideration for this category...

Lenny Moore is one of the two correct answers for this question! |
Thanks homer, I somehow had Arizona in back of my mind. He seems to be one of those steady anonymous players that moved around a bit. I am stunned that he is #9 in receptions.
|
Tom Rathman?
|
Herschel walker perhaps? just guessing now
|
does bobby mitchell count? he started off as more of a running back, then turned receiver.
|
None oft he above guesses are correct. Sorry.
|
marshall faulk is damn close to being he next to go over 6,000 yards. i looked him up and he is at 5,984. as for the answer to the question i have no clue
|
walter payton?
|
Still no correct answers.
Thanks for that info kid, I figured Faulkl would be getting close. |
I just had to look it up....I would have never guessed it.
Edit: The remaining one, that is. Lenny Moore I guessed from living in Baltimore for a while. |
cuervo, why don't you mention the team, or the years he played or something that would give these guys a good hint.
|
Well shoot at least I got the UT grads right heh.
|
Excellent questions marm, please post another one like this in the future.
|
Hmm, I don't want to be too easy, nor too hard....here goes.
A contemporary of Larry Centers for most of his career, this player left his first team the year before they made their first super bowl....but played in a super bowl for his new team, catching the most number of balls for his squad. How's that? |
thanks render.
good clue cuervo! |
Thanks....though I still don't think I would have gotten it, even with my own clue :)
|
He played for the Bills?
Todd |
I'll defer to marm on this one, I don't want to high-jack his thread.
|
After looking it up, I'm mad at myself for not knowing this one.
|
This person played 4 years in Buffalo, then 6 years in another city, he finished his career playing for 2 others teams over the last 2 years of his career.
|
Are we sure it's not Eric Metcalf? Edgar Bennett?
|
Oops, disregard, I guess not.
|

We are sure. :) This one is really tough to get, but once you hear the answer, you'll probably say, "I should have known that!" |
Alright, one last clue for you college football gurus....He played at Iowa.
|
Must....resist....urge.....to.....cheat.....
|
I suppose I will reveal the answer around 6pm or so...this has been up all day, and if nobody gets it by then, it was probably just too hard for all you so called football fans. :D
|
Quote:
Well, I had to cheat and look it up, but you're right. I slapped my forehead and uttered "should have know it..." Tough one... |
Based on Cuervo's clue he was with the Bills in the late 80s then went to another team that played in their first Super Bowl in the mid 90s, which I think would be San Diego. I can't think of who the FB on that Chargers team was.
Todd |
henry, you have all the details, now you just need the name!
|
Ronnie Harmon

We have a winner!!!! Good work getting all of these answered guys. |
The only way I got was by picturing old football cards. The teams made it a little bit easier.
