Obviously CK2 would have been prefered, but this is like 1A instead of #1 on my list. I've probably played CK more then any game not named CM/FM or TCY
|
Hopefully you will not need the orginal CD, as I just lost it and believe it was thrown out. :(
|
Woooooooooooooooo :)
(I Love this game) |
I've never played CK, but I might go grab it at lunch if I can find it in any of the stores. Is there warfare in the game, and if so, is it EU-esque?
|
Quote:
There's warfare, yes and it's somewhat along the EU vein in that you move your troops to their intended locations but don't physically control them in battle. However, your only control over your troop mix is in the realm laws you choose, so you don't actually buy and raise troops yourself--it happens automatically. You can research different military technologies, though, which have various improvement effects on different parts of your army (i.e knights, heavy cavalry, light infantry, etc). You may want to check the CK dynasties on the Paradox boards and look for some gameplay ones, too. Or you can ask those of us who are CK addicts on the board here questions. :) |
The Paradox games should be right up my alley, but I haven't gotten hooked by one yet. This was the closest, but man, it seemed to just be a matter of waiting most of the time. I was never strong enough to invade anyone successfully, and other than trying to build what I could in my provinces I didn't know what to do.

Ahhh nice, the underlined part REALLY interests me in particular. This is something that I wish more strategy games did, as it's a hell of a lot more realistic. |

After messing about with EUIII for awhile, I know what you mean. I played EUIII all the way through once with Scotland and had a lot of fun, but the problem with not using one of the big nations is that there is just a heck of a lot of waiting around and doing nothing - especially with the very small nations. Realistic, but not a lot of fun. :) I found myself craving a game that dealt more with the ruler and his heirs and political intrigue within my own country. Combining that with the fact that I definately prefer the time frame CK is set in with regards to European history, so it basically sounds like exactly the game I've been looking for! |
Oh yeah, this is going to rock.
|
Damn. Did a tour of every PC Game store in the Sydney CBD but not a single one had Crusader Kings. Ended up buying it online for $13AU incl. shipping, but now I gotta wait a few days for it to show up.

I was waiting for you to chime in on this thread |

Me too. I think court intrigues are fascinating. Fantastic game subject if you do it right. |

I <3 Crusader Kings |
my only hope, as i loved CK, is that they simplify finding a wife...it was way too time consuming

I would love to have an in-game bridefinder which takes into consideration the prestige of the mates, their standing in society, geograpic location and general stance between lieges. |
Somehow I've never picked this one up. Is this just EU in the middle ages? I think I read on another board a description of it as more of a Role-playing Dynasty management sim than a EU3 type game. Is this true? If so, I'm in.
|
Yes, definitely more of a dynasty thing. The goal of the game is to perpetuate your royal lineage; in fact, if you die without an heir, you're done (although you can always switch realms).
|
Slight adjustment:
If you die without an heir as your same last dynasty name, you lose the game. Unless you have no heirs at all, including non-dynasty heirs, in which case you get a country cousin (scrubby ruler with your dynasty's last name) |
I should really pick up this game on the cheap, as I have LOVED playing Medieval II:Total War with the "Blood, Broads, Bastards" mod, which seems to make it resemble CK (as much as it probably could).
Is it available for DL? |
Not always Izulde. If you are the Germans then it goes to the next in line for the courts. You can also have a different last name depending on if the kingdom can be passed on maternally and to the strongest son.

I hate you. Do you just want me to do NO work today on my "work from home" day? :D |

I echo the sentiments of DT. Thanks... |
Well from what I gleaned from looking at the paradox forums, the new ledger screen will let you sort brides by stats etc. So it should make bride finding much much easier.

true. But the more I work, the more potential we have to get paid. And really getting seriously paid would be nice! |
I asked BK and he said he didn't know: does the game behave well with alt-tab and/or windowed mode??
I tend to do 98% of my gameplaying while multitasking, so this is pretty much a necessity |
Quote:
Never tried windowed mode and I don't even know if it's available. I alt-tab out of it all the time though, because I'm playing at the same time I write my dynasty updates. I would strongly suggest that you pause the game before alt-tabbing though, which is what I do. My suspicion is that as long as you pause it, you'll be fine, whereas if you leave it running, you could run the risk of a crash. |
Quote:
thanks izulde. That's all I was waiting on! |
Quote:
Yeah and different last name = game over. It has to be the same last name as your dynasty or the game ends. :) Which is why I always use some form of salic inheritance. Semi-salic is too damned risky. |
GoGamer.com is currently selling Crusader Kings for $1.99.

Does anyone know if CK will work with Windows Vista? If so, I'm buying.
|
Yes. I have it on Vista
|
Quote:
Thanks, I appreciate it. |
oh taz...you marvelous little man!

Where did you find Blood, Broads, Bastards mod? |
Quote:
blood, broads, bastards is a mod for Medieval II: Total War. It's available on the Total War Center Forums |
Quote:
Yeah, i was looking for it I just couldn't find it. But, I was checking the official forums let me try there instead. |
Quote:
it should be under the mods forum. Not to threadjack, but I have found that there are a couple solid "conversion mods" out there, and CA actually made it fairly easy to switch mods this time around. I have Stainless Steel and Lands to Conquer and The Long Road all installed. I find myself playing Stainless Steel the most (which includes blood, broads, bastards, as do the other two) |
Quote:
Daddy, I just downloaed stainless steel, do I need the ultimate AI mod for it as well? Or does SS come with ultimate ai mod? |
Quote:
I BELIEVE stainless incorporates the ultimate AI mod but I'm not sure. You'd hafta read the Stainless Steel thread, or check in the readme. |
anyways, BBB has totally made me want CK. I was all set to order from gamersgate last night, but how can I turn down $1.90 at gogamer?
|
Quote:
Yeah, I'm going to pick up CK myself. But, I'm going to wait till the expansion. |
