X-Box 360 Price Drop
 

I haven’t seen anything on the board about this so I'd thought I'd make a post about it. Target, Circuit City, and Best Buy are advertising a $50 price drop (now $350) on the X-Box 360 this week and a $30 price drop on the X-Box 360 Elite (now $450).

They waited until I bought one last week...

If you bought it from Circuit City you can take it back and the'll match their price.

If I bought it from anywhere other than EB I can get the price matched. Unfortunately...

EB doesn't even let you return it? If they do just tell them you willing to return it to them and re-buy elsewhere.

EB will price match it if you bought it within 7 days of the price drop (I think that makes it 8/1).

Really? That's not what they told me up here. Either it's different in Canada or the high school kid behind the counter didn't know what he was talking about.

And managed to somehow decide that the price drop was a bad thing for Microsoft to have done...

C'mon now! Everyone knows that if there is one thing that cosumers hate, it is a price drop.

I didn't say that at all. I stated that it wouldn't have a big effect on sales overall because the decrease was too small. I also stated that the new Halo-themed 360 would have a much greater impact on sales than the relatively small price drops.

Sorry, you are correct, and I'll be man enough to admit it. I misinterpreted your "not that good overall" comment.

So I went to another EB today and the guy said they'd honor the price back to August 1. But then he said "you need to do it soon, today or tomorrow". I asked if there was a deadline, and he said "no, but do it today or tomorrow".

Is there a meteor coming tomorrow and I missed the story?

I've seen several commercials about the price drop on TV (mostly in conjunction with the Madden release). I don't remember seeing any PS3 commercials about their price drop though. Of course, it might be that the only thing I watch live on tv is football, so if Sony advertised someplace else I probably fast forwarded through it.

The newer versions are suppose to be better in that department. There are still occasional reports of RROD with the Elite which has the larger heat sink, but it's not as prevelent as in the other older Core and Premium boxes. Best chance of avoiding the problem is to buy an Elite, get the cooler fan add-on, and put it in a WELL-ventilated area.
