Ping: Chicago Residents
A buddy of mine is passing through town new brunswick bound and he was wondering where some good places to stop were to experience Chicago. He's got a full day, probably midweek and wants to hit the best pizza place in town.
|
Pizza - Giordanos, Lou Malnati's, and Gino's East are the ones that I would recommend. There should be multiple locations for each of these downtown.
|
Gino's East or Lou Malonotti's...Gino's is my favorite but Lou's is good too.
He also needs to go to Portillo's and get an Italian Sausage or Italian Roast Beef sandwich with grilled peppers... God I miss Chicago sometimes! |
My favorite is a place called "Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder." I have it every time I'm up there. It's very different but is fantastic. Make sure to get their Mediterranian Bread. It's outstanding.

I hear there's this awesome place called Uno's.......
|
Chicago's pizza is seriously overrated. We have better pizzas here in Racine, esp. Wells Bros.
That being said, I'd say the best Chi-town pizza is Gino's East. |

I'm pretty sure there was a past thread on this with a lot of good Chicago info. Nevertheless, this is another opportunity to say, do NOT listen to those who say Gino's East is desirable pizza. Giordano's is the best I've found in Chi-town. |
I concur that Giordano's is the best of the bunch. But I don't think you go wrong with any of the three I listed earlier.
Uno's - just not a fan. That is the one I think is overrated. |
One vote for Giordano's, here. Although my very favorite is this one here, but it's not as well known or easy to find as the "big names".
|
No doubt, Giordano's is my top choice when I'm craving pizza. And also I'm seconding Portillo's while he is here.
He may never leave. |
My Pie Pizza, on Clark just north of Fullerton. How can you go wrong with a place that has a "pi" symbol on its sign? But if he wants something more touristy, try one of the other places -- it's not a very lively place.
|
If he wants a Chicago style pizza that none of the tourists know about, it's Pequods on Clybourn. Of course Uno's, Lou Malnatis and Giordanos are fantastic too. Best beef is Roma's on Cicero. Order the combo!

I went to Chicago about 10 years ago and have had the itch to go back again.
My buddy and I are traveling to Nebraska in a few months (wedding) and decided we'd make it a longer trip and stay a day or two in Chicahgo. I really want to visit Wrigley again, but it will be past the season. |
