Bug? QB pasing to himself

Weird stuff in my first preseason game in the NAFL:

- First, my rookie QB passed to himself:

3-6-MIA24 (1Q: 03:37) Kenny Banks pass completed to QB Kenny Banks for 2 yards. Tackled by CB Riddick De Rooy. The quarterback threw away from the double coverage.

- A few plays later, he was replaced by the second QB (we are in preseason) but strangely enough, he had some running plays after beign replaced as QB, it seems he was playing both as QB and as RB for some time.

Look at this play in the 3rd quarter (he was replaced as QB in the 1st quarter):

1-10-MIA21 (3Q: 09:37) Kenny Banks ran inside the left guard for 7 yards. Tackled by DE Randy Murray. Key block delivered by Vernon Carey.

Of course in the deep chart he was only listed as starting QB and there were 2 active RB taking the 2 RB spots in the deep chart. I had only 2 RB active so it could have been that... but still a bug.

That's sometimes happened with buggy custom gameplans - was the gameplan done in game, or imported?

Just clicked recomend on everything as i had no time to gameplan and we were in the preseason anyway.

Not completely unfounded....I saw this happen in one of the pre-season games last week (can't remember which one) if you google "pass completed to himself) or something, you could probably find it.

This is something that actually happens in the real NFL. A passer will throw the ball and a DL or someone will get a hand on it popping it up into the air when a QB will run up and catch it and run with it.

I'm not kidding here, I actually saw this in an NFL pre-season game.

Check your formation personnel. More than likely a position is doubled up somewhere. How it got that way is the actual bug. I've never used an imported gameplan.

Have you checked the Solevision file?

If I remember correctly, Brett Favre's very first pass was to himself. The pass was batted up in the air at the line, came right back to him.

Not to say that this isn't a bug - it almost surely is a game screwup of some kind, as I doubt Jim bothered to code this into the game (but you never know).

I suspect our pass coverage was so good he figured thats the only chance he had of completing a pass, and he wanted to pad his stats a little. :)

This was the issue. After checking out with some NAFL members, it seems that for any reason, after starting a new season, some random teams get their players positions doubled in some formations. I double checked and i had the TE1 listed at TE in all the positions in all the formations. As it never happened to me before, i checked the gameplan but not the formations settings.

I wonder why does that happen just to random teams after a new season starts. anyway it's easily avoidable double checking now that I know it can happen.

Why fix it? He caught the pass. ;)

I remember that about Favre...

Didn't Brad Johnson catch his own batted pass in a game and run it in for a TD?

QuikSand 09-06-2007 08:12 PM

Yeah, this crap NEVER happens in a real game.

9 Brees passes to 9 Brees and that is good for 10 yards!

Raiders Army 09-06-2007 10:48 PM

Sadly, that was 1 out of the 4 fantasy points I got for Brees tonight.

stevew 09-06-2007 11:28 PM

I believe he scored 0 in our scoring. 6 points for 150 yards passing, -4 points for the 2 interceptions, and -2 for the lost fumble.

He had 192 yards passing, so he got 9 points for passing yards, -4 points for the 2 INTs, and -2 points for the fumble. He also got 1 point for the reception in our league.
