My Bills History
2015 8-8
2014 7-9

coming off our 8-8 season where we were stopped at the 4 on the final play of our season with the division title on the line against New England so the bar is set pretty high going into the is year

Staff Hiring, well all 4 coaches are unsigned with one already receiving an offer. it's our Head Coach with the offer and it's more then my owner has allotted, were still hopeful he'll return (he's good) and have made a competative offer. offers are out at the 3 other positions as well

Staff hiring ended great, we signed all four guys we offered, we've kept our great Coach and DCord and the OCord and scout are good as well. wont have to worry about this stage for two more years

First Thoughts on Team

The first thing i looked at was the Qb's where we have a now 14 year vet, one of the best backups in the league, and a promising first rounder from a year a go. here's where we are before camp

Leftwich, Byron QB 14 59 59 2 yrs
Hansen, Quentin QB 12 53 53 1 yr.
Heier, Bernie QB 2 33 61 3 yrs

There is no point in having both Leftwich and Hansen so one will be placed on the block, likely Hansen. Heier looks ready but as long as we're winning he'll have to wait another year.

i decided weeks ago SE would be my top offseason target and we'll keep our eye out for some help at LB and CB and will look to get younger at OT. i have the freedom of cap room and four day one picks including an extra 2nd a top round two

Review of last year's rookies

14th pick QB Bernie Heier end of season ratings 33/61 ----> pre camp 31/56
not playing last season seems to have hurt his ratings but we think he'll get them back once he starts playing football

36th pick DE Freddie Doyle 38/55 ----> 38/55
still has a lot of developing to go in RunD and PRTech

45th overall FS Mitch Ungerer 41/61 ----> 38/58
hmmm, took an unexpected hit. something to do with VH V? we'll see. weakness in man-2-man but good player otherwise. underdeveloped vs run but 4 int's a year ago and reasons too expect more

3rd CB Clarence Sheldon 21/48 ----> 19/42
yikes, the one guy i reached on a year ago and it doesn't appear to be a good pick as he went backwards in the offseason. he'd still be a good nickel dime guy if he could just develop

4th C Albert Amato 34/54 ----> 31/50
another guy takes a hit on the ratings and i'm not sure where it came from, he started 10 games a year ago. wont be a great run blocking C and still has a years worth of developing to do

5th DT Shaun Richard 21/39 ----> 21/37
sent him to summer camp so we'll see there. he has a a PRTech that could reach 64 and PH that's 89 so if he develops he could have a role with the team

Free Agency (pre draft)

i locked up Adams, Bates and Hein to long term deals but FA didn't go so great. i kid you not i had 17 signed elsewhere too only 1 FA signed (a backup TE Gallacci), through stage 5.

Corwin Ramirez LG (53) was dealt for 4.4 a win win for both parties as Ramirez is good enough to start but for us he'd be a backup in his last year

Dunleavy 08-23-2007 06:01 AM

The Draft

16th overall
we tried to trade up and take one of the several top CB's (the 4th of which went 12th). after that we targeted three others, two of which went in the three picks before us. the one remaining was RDT Rusty Norton excels at all phases of pass rushing and will be good enough vs run. 46%, V=VH, great combine - weighs 323 ran sub 5 forty, 42 reps
initial rating 41/61 after camp 42/61 (unsigned)

35th overall - traded, too miami of all teams, for a mid 3rd, a 2nd next year and RB Jeffrey Thomason RB (45/47). we only got fair vaule for the pick but the deal was worth doing b/c of Thomason. admittly i could have just signed him in FA but i went after another RB and lost out. we needed a second RB and he avg'd 4.5 last year

47th overall - our biggest off-season need was at SE and we hadn't addressed it till now with Andrew Brakke very solid, says isn't a big play threat but he can get downfield, adjust to ball and has courage. great endurance and can return punts. V = low 4.52 40 and 41%
initial rating 34/56 after camp 37/54

3.14 - CB Banks a bit of a sleeper bit, game didn't have him highly rated. just okay man-to-man but otherwise can cover, support run, pick passes, and return kickoffs. 47% V = low
initial rating 21/63 after camp 22/52

3.17 - our OT target is gone (still really need a young OT) so we went Leslie Van Pelt TE. good blocker but not strong. good reciever but not a downfield threat. can long snap. 56% V = low
initial rating 39/59 after camp 37/55 (unsigned)

4.4 - missed pick and paided the price. Tracy Carlisle SS, big hitter but not much else going for him. 60% V = avg
initial rating 25/36 after camp 26/37

4.16 - back in time for this pick Shane Jacobs FL. terrible route runner but can avoid drops and is strong on 3rd down which makes a great backup to stud FL Yellope. 39% V = low
initial rating 25/47 after camp 24/42 (unsinged)

5.15 - throwing a dart a board here with Deron Aleman RCB. strong bars in man-to-man, zone and run support just okay else where. 38% V = high
initial rating 17/51 after camp 20/46

7th - taking another CB here, Mario Doughty RCB. should be +50 for Int's, bump, and man. 27 p score, 30%, 4.52, V = low
initial ratings 13/52 after camp 14/44

Team Recap

what really jumps out at me is our QB's, they're bad. there are two former first rounders and young, only 2nd and 4th year men, but Jason Campbell has no future (19/31), and last year's number one has a good future rating, 55, but is way underdevloped with a current rating of 12. i do like Michael Robinson RB, rated 53/61 and only in his 4th year. Chris Cooley is a top TE (80). Santana Moss FL, 58 rating, gives us one quaility WR but the other starter, Jerry Porter SE, is avg at 46 and no other wr has future over 35.
the OL is real solid, were good at C, LG and LT and very good with 6 year man Derrick Dockery at RG (72). RT is alittle dicey, 5th year man Jim Molinaro RT (43/51) would be good enough to start for 3 or 4 years but he's a FA, the vet option is avg. we'll need a P and K at some point
Andre Carter LDE is small disaster, he still has 6 mill in signing bonus to clear that i'll have to take over 5 years which makes him impossible to cut and he's only rated 36 which unfortanly makes him our top rated DE but 2nd year man Lamarr Woodley RDE will take over that honor soon enough, 29/50. Cornelius Griffin LDT is a great DT, rated 60, he can play the NT spot which is good b/c i condiering switching the defense to a 3-4. there is no RDT to speak of. our LB's are all avg with 3rd year man Rocky McIntosh SLB having the only future, 37/57. this also makes switching to 3-4 easier.
Shawn Springs LCB is a stud, 80 rating, but he's is in his 12th year. Dimitri Patterson LCB, 30/55 4th year and a former undrafted player, hopefully will grow into the LCB job by Springs retirement. on the other side 4th year man Carlos Rogers RCB forms what might be the vNFL's top CB pairing, he's rated 71. 5th year man Sean Taylor SS is good (58, so is Mike Doss FS (55 6th year)

First Impression of Team
well once i got over the QB shock this is a really good team, we've got a very solid OL, two great receivers and quaility young RB. on defense the front seven needs some work, and we'll likely switch to a 3-4, but our DB's are top notch. i'd say once we get a good QB we have the look of a playoff team

One Big Problem were 6.5 million over the cap

Team makes big trade
the Redskins once again trade for future picks (once again meaning previous owner had multipile deals for future picks). this deal was forced when i realized i would be out of town during the league draft, the deal is
The Saints send: 4th round pick in 2009 1st round pick in 2010 4th round pick in 2010
for
The Redskins send: Oak's 2nd round pick in 2008 3rd round pick in 2008 5th round pick in 2009 6th round pick in 2009 6th round pick in 2010 7th round pick in 2010
i wanted fair value for the Oak pick (34th overall) and we think we got it, although it took a ton of picks to even the scales. another benfit is it relieves a little of cap room this year which is still a big issue

and the team has also Franchised Jim Molinaro RT (43/51). may not be worthy of a franchise tag but it takes him off the market and allows us to agree a private deal.

i made a ton of contract moves to get under the cap, atleast half a dozen moves were made and we're now 8.5m under but the bad news is we only have 36 players under contract. there is work still to be done

Dunleavy 08-23-2007 06:17 AM

we traded (for who else but) Micheal Vick (40) who steps in as our starter. it's only the 3rd year in the league' existent and there just wasn't any better qb's to trade for, we only gave up a 6th.

the team made a few FA signings (for the min or close to it). we have 8.8 under the cap with 14 roster spots to fill. we have 4 pick this year, a 4th, 5th and two 7th's (we have a ton of picks over the next two years, 13 day one picks over two years (mostly previous owner)

a historical league
Wrigleyfield Ravens History
First Year
1979

Free Agency

Franchised LB Doug Swift, he had an outstanding near 5.0 PR rating last season to go along with a 80+ PD pct, rare stats from a LB. should be able to sign him for a reasonable 2 year deal, the tag was just to make sure i kept him

Bill Enyart a RB and 11 year vet signed a two year deal worth 600k. he has 51 rating that may only equals ou current backup but Enyart is a more proven player (4.17 career avg to 4.08

Trades

WILB Mike Martin was acquired in a trade, rated 32/47. he's seen as a decent role playing LB for years to come, only second year, we gave similarly rated vet

we sent 5th year man Pat Donovan LT, 57 rating, to NY for a 3rd and a 4th. good player, good deal for NY, but wasn't going to start this year and maybe 13 year vet Doug Crusan LT will return next season too. it worked out for us grabbing Keith Dorney LT in the draft who we as the new heir apparent to Crusan

we picked up 13 year vet Howard Ingram K, 57 rating from the packers for a 7th. better fg taker then Parten K (50) who managed not to get cut thanks to a strong kick off leg and Ingram's weakness in that area

the big trade was sending 12 year vet and 72 rated George Daney LT to seattle for a second rounder. it was a move i debated b/c i didn't like the idea of trading a vet b/c this is a team that wants to win it all this year and i've hurt our chances no doubt making this deal. however in the long term i think it will work out, for one we had a log jam at Tackle with four players over 53 and two over 70. having Crusan made things easier, he's equally highly rated LT so i wasn't going to have a drop of at LT. another thing Crusan was playing out of position, RT, b/c of Daney and i thought it was hurting his preformence. and finally i had Dennis Harrah RT, rated 54, to take over a RT. a drop off of 18 points yes, but Harrah started all 16 games last year with good numbers

Draft

we took Rodney Odum RB with the 23rd pick. it wasnt our biggest need but we a collection of vet RB's and were going to need a young RB sooner or later plus we think he's going to be a good one although his high volatility is a concern. projected ratings 45-75-60-75-20-70...80-75-75-70-55-75-65-55-85
intial future ratings 37-72-54-76-42-69...66-72-59-63-54-65-61-54-66
post TC ratings 43/60

EDITORS NOTE having gone out of town i wasnt able to do the rest of the picks until i got back, which means there will be no projections from here on out

Kris Lindsay WILB, early 2nd. we traded up to get him and aside from his PRTech he's a complete player and rates very well against the pass. solid is the word i'd use to describe him, should be a starter for 10 years in this league
intial future ratings 52-18-72-76-78-57-53-66-49-53
overal rating 38/57

Dennis Hoard RDE, early 3rd. very underdevloped but has a future for sure, very solid vs run and playdi. great PRtech but let down a bit by avg PRstrg and very poor hitting
intial ratings 61-78-40-66-5-67
overal rating 21/59

Keith Dorney LT, late 3rd. shows the promise of a starting LT with 81 PassB
intial ratings 40-81-50-58
overal rating 22/58

Late FA. coming back from vacation with 60 players on the roster i had some trimming to do

made six easy cuts, down to 54 players, one of the extra RB's are next to go. still could use a piece or two but is there time to pull it off?

Team outlook

on offense were solid, Bradshaw has the ratings but Pastorini has the stats and now Bradshaw's rating edge is down to just one (68-67 post tc). Bradshaw got the long term so it's his job to lose. were overstocked with 3 vet RB's and 1st rounder. we've got three really good WR's, the OL is 3 good's, 1 very good and 1 avg.

on defense we play a 3-4. franchised SLB 11 year vet Swift (43) tanked after TC and signing a 2 year deal but o well, 4th year man Lowe (56) is ready to start. first rounder Lindsay (38/57) may not be able to beat out Nelson (46/50) at WILB. Bonness (46) is ok for now at SILB while last years #1 Matthews (42/52) should run away with the WLB job. our DL is avg across the line but were looking to add a vet and 3rd rounder Hoard has a chance to grow over the course of the season. the DB's are ok, the CB's are avg but our Safties good and very good and were planning to use vet FS Atkins (45) as a nickel and dime CB.
in late breaking news we've traded for DE Holman (12 vet 50 rating) giving up a 4th rounder. to be honest Holman had a sub-par final season with the packers (4.6PRPct), but were hoping he can turn in a quaility season or two before hanging up his cleats and he's still an upgrade over the default starter (44 rating)
he've also extended three players, star RB Larry Brown among them who got a 2 year deal 2.74m, in his 11th year were hoping for two or three more productive seasons. we also begrudingly gave NT Joe Klecko a 6 year deal worth 2.72m, he only has a 46 rating but is the only quaility NT within sight and had really good numbers in his first season starting a year ago

through 8 games were 5-3 tied for first in the AFC North, a 3 way tie

Bradshaw (67) got hurt but could have played but coaching staff went to Pastorini (67) who in turn got hurt but continued to start. Bradshaw has the edge now and with only one more weak needed for 100% he'll be starting soon. i thought we had too many RB's but we've had two injured the whole season. Larry Brown (60) was one of'em for a couple weeks but he's back at full strength. Stowe SE (61) also missed a few games. Daniels SS (67) missed five games. Harrah RT is out 6 more weeks and his backup is also out, we had to sign an OT in FA. Julius Adams (47) RDE is on IR. the good news is we beat the Colts to move into a 3 way for first at 5-3

we had a good offseason, lost just one quaility player, signed our two best young players too long term deals and avoided having our two star vets holdout

was out of town during the draft and traded away my picks for future picks then traded three of those to grab a stud CB in Shaun Greenberg (4th highest CB rating in game). our big FA pickup was Rex Doe NT and it looks an even better signing after long time Texans stallworth Shane Newhart NT took an age hit.

we consider ourselves a top ENFL team and were quite disappointed not winning a playoff game last year. were loaded on offense with a top QB and weapons everywhere. the OL is solid with no weak spot. on defense we should be good enough, a couple weak spots and a couple developing young players but there is enough talent overall

Dunleavy 08-26-2007 06:30 PM

we made a good trade for us sending young starters

Rodriguez, Terrance SLB 5th 42
Dobson, Roman WLB 3rd 32/49
and a 3rd two years from now

for two replacement vet starters

Winston Sullivan WLB 8th 48/57 (recently switched to WLB)
Jose Erickson SLB 8th 56

we've now got a four solid vet LB's in their primes. the defense is going to be solid, i;m real excited about his team, they have the look of a champion

Dunleavy 08-26-2007 06:35 PM

this why i like the team, check out our starting lineup

week one i didn't get a chance to set the team but we went into division rivals Jacksonville and came out with a 24-10 win. the defense was great, 3.45 ypa allowed and 3.67 yards per pass! but our old fumbling problem is back, he had (and lost) three.

Draft

4th - Van Shelton QB. this wasn't a pick of need but i felt he was worth the pick. very strong bars in every non-passes field (w/the exception of sense rush). his arm is accurate but is not a strong downfield. 4.70 forty 31% a bit short in the position drill (64)
intial ratings 11/52

5th - Percy Rogers RCB. Terrible in run support okay in coverage. PD 44, 31%, V = high
intial ratings 17/42

7th - Kelly Pritchett SLB. good vs run, okay otherwise but with a couple terrible spots. 49% v = avg
intial ratings 19/46

7th - Winston Gossett K. v = vh, 36%. good enough kicker, terrible kickoffs
intial ratings 32/59

Week 10 (5-4) vs Balt Colts (5-4)

we had to settle for 3 fg's but right before halftime Bradshaw aired it out throwing for a td and giving us a 16-10 lead at the half and extended to 19-10 into the 4th Q but here came the Colts coming back to 19-17 and had the ball at their 31 w/over 2 mins to go when S Dick Daniels came up with a huge game sealing interception. a good win for us moving our division record to 3-1, were a half a game out of the Houston Texans heading into our bye

Week 2 (1-0) vs Seattle (1-0)

Seattle absolutely killed us 23-6, we were down early and never in the game. they ran 80 plays to our 46, ouch. the only good thing i can take out of this is we out avg'd them p/play 6.0 to 4.1 now another bad thing to take out of it was more fumbling problems, two more this week

Week 3 (1-1) at Miami (1-1)

a miami td of 29 yards on the final play of the first half dampered what was a great defenseive effort andput the dlophins up 7-6. we again settled for a red zone fg giving us a 9-7 lead heading into the 4th. ILB Randall Pickering came up with a big int giving us the ball at their 31 and Elston and George connected as we final scored a td but miami answered within 3 minutes, now 16-14 w/5:30 to go. George caught a 43 yard bomb but fumbled at the one, we lost the ball but the defense held, it wasn't a pretty game at all but we hung in there 16-14 in miami. the offense has been poor and i'll have to go back and double check the settings b/c we should be high powered offense. looking at today's game it didn't help that QB Elston was hurried 11 times! or that backup RB Chandler had six carries for minus two yards. we didn't play well enough to win on the side of the ball it was the defense that won the game forcing four turnovers and the dophins never entered the red zone.

our fourth road game to open the season will be next week in pittsburgh then we can finally go home, hopefully we'll have the offense fixed by then but big credit to the defense
