Ryan Leaf Memorial League - Fantasy Football
Just set up a Fantasy League that I thought would be interesting. The idea is to pick the worst players, and you score points on Incomplete Passes, INT's, Fumbles, Missed FG's, etc.
Here's the league info if you want to join: Location: fantasysports.yahoo.com League ID#: 565714 League Name: Ryan Leaf Memorial League Password: ryanleaf Here's the full scoring list: Passing Touchdowns -4 Points Interceptions 4 Points Incomplete Passes 1 Points Sacks 1 Points Rushing Touchdowns -6 Points Rushing Attempts 1 Points Reception Touchdowns -6 Points Receptions 2 Points Return Touchdowns -6 Points Offensive Fumble Return TD -6 Points 2-Point Conversions -2 Points Fumbles Lost 10 Points Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards 5 Points Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards 4 Points Field Goals Missed 30-39 Yards 3 Points Field Goals Missed 40-49 Yards 3 Points Field Goals Missed 50+ Yards 3 Points Point After Attempt Missed 1 Points Points Allowed 0 points -1 Points Points Allowed 1-6 points -4 Points Points Allowed 7-13 points 0 Points Points Allowed 14-20 points 1 Points Points Allowed 21-27 points 4 Points Points Allowed 28-34 points 7 Points Points Allowed 35+ points 10 Points Sack -1 Points Interception -2 Points Fumble Recovery -2 Points Touchdown -6 Points Safety -2 Points Block Kick -2 Points Fractional Points No Negative Points Yes |
I can see Rex Grossman going #1 in this league's draft.
|
Rex's Jekyll and Hyde act would have killed you in several games last season, though. He's the type of player that actually sucks for both league setups.
|
Me and some buddies did almost the exact same thing 3 years ago. Had a full 12 team draft of guys we knew.
I'm pretty sure we got to about the middle of week 2 before the final person lost interest. |
Wouldn't the best strategy be to draft people who don't play?

I just heard this morning that the Onion has a fantasy football league with a similar concept -- but they make you choose a QB from a list of 6 or so -- so you have to choose someone who plays. Then you choose one RB each from 2 different tiers. So that might interest you.
|
Also, you didn't tell people which site your league is being run on. It seems like yahoo, but I dunno.
|
My bad. This is a yahoo league.
As for drafting guys that don't play, I tried to set it up to discourage that. For example, you get points for each incompletion for QB's (not to mention a ton for fumbles. If you pick a backup QB, you'll be screwed.) For RB's and WR's, it was harder but I set it up so they get pts. for Attempts and Receptions. The idea being to find guys who play a lot but don't get TD's. |

Somewhere in Bristol, there are tears rolling down the cheeks of Keyshawn Johnson. |
Example: Last year, Roddy White would have been worth 70 points over the course of the season, as opposed to a handful of points you'd get for a guy that rarely plays.

Ah, but I'm expecting him to be all suck this year. Of course, that causes its own problems, in that he could get benched and then you have to find an equally-sucky QB. |
Actually, I've rethinked the points system and took away negatives for TD's and the positives for receptions and rushing attempts. That way, it still encourages finding starters for fumbling the ball without negating the fumble points with TD points.

It's a fun idea. Football Outsiders does something similar and they might have tips:

that sounds highly amusing
