Brown's former deal also ran through 2004, with a much larger base salary -- $6 million for this season, and a cap figure of $7.63 million. The Raiders are now approximately $6 million under the NFL's $75 million salary cap limit.

Rice's reworked deal, as is the case with most "blockbuster" NFL extensions, is heavily backloaded to provide cap savings, said Rice's agent, Jim Steiner.
