After months of uncertainty, it is finally imminent, I am about to join the ranks of the unemployed. It might be as early as tonight, it might go on to the 15th, but this is the end.

Man, this sucks. On the flip side FedEx did contact me last night regarding a possible interview.

FedEx is a great company to work for. My Step Mom just left Harrah's after 16 years there for FedEx and she is taking a paycut to do it. Why? Better benefits and work environment.

The good news, I was already looking for something else because one way or another this was my last year here.

The bad part, my parents are losing everything and are moving in with my brother.

The frustrating part, through July we were on pace to more than double our sales. The problem was that we ran out of product on the shelf to sell.

My brother works for Fed Ex Services and he enjoys it, except for certain people that he has worked with. But the benefits alone are worth it.

I take it your Stepmom lives here in the Memphis area then?

My wife just came back from visiting them. I spent two years on and off with my dad out there as well.

How does a company run out of product? Why aren't they firing the guy responsible or THAT =)

Oh, so they are one of those families I curse every day driving 240 since I can't take 40 through town! ;) Seriously, that's a nice area down there. Just need to be careful not to go a block too far in any direction.

Crappy man, sorry to hear it. I still haven't got 100% on track from losing my job earlier this year. (Meaning the job I have had since blows and am thinking of making a severe life change now). I hope you bounce back faster then me, that's for sure.

On the lighter side of things, ever considered being a pimp? The cops in Memphis seemed to be taking the ladies of the night (and day in memphis) a little more serious last time I was there, they could probably use some help.

Funny story. A few years back I was heading to Bluff City Electronics near Brooks Rd. I'm trying to find the street to turn down. So I am driving slow in the right lane. A prostitute that was walking by thought I was checking her out, so she turned around and followed my car after I turned down the side street.

That's a good story, lol. If I recall correctly you are more on the conservative side then me so it makes it funnier.

I've spent 12 years doing technical sales. That said, I have some unique work experience since I have worked at small pump companies where I performed all different company functions except for accounting.

I have designed inventory (not database related, warehouse related) and part numbering systems.

I have performed job engineering, actually engineering and creating the bills of materials as well as the drawings for pumps and sent them out to the shop.

I have worked with civil engineers in putting together specifications for projects.

I have been responsible for managing projects once they become orders. This includes either creating the drawings, or coordinating with engineering to get the drawings done, interfacing with the customer to make any changes to the drawings, either purchasing the products myself, or interfacing with purchasing to make sure they buy the correct parts/products, making sure that manufacturing is meeting their timetable, and keeping the customer aware of any changes to that timetable, and coordinating and conducting testing of that product.

I have worked on various outsourcing and cost reducing teams to make products more competitive in the marketplace as well as increasing sales margins.

I have worked on various kaizen committees regarding order fulfillment and warranty claims. I also spearheaded the changes to one facilities order entry procedures.

My experience has been with chemical and water pumps in the industrial, agricultural, and municipal markets. However, due to the nature of pumps, I am also familiar with electric motors, variable frequency drives, and sealing systems.

I am not tied to Memphis, I would actually love to relocate to the Midwest, St. Louis (Emerson Electric is one company I am looking at), Chicago, Milwaukee, Champaign-Urbana, Cincinnati, Columbus, etc. I would prefer to get out of pumps, but would be willing to stay on in the right position.
