Friday Fun Trivia Chain

So I'll post a question, and the first person to get it right can post the next question. And we will just go on like that.

The only twist is that your next question has to be related in some way to the question that came before it. Whether it has to do with the number, or the player, or the team, or the city, or whatever (and it does not have to stay limited to sports).

Anyway, here's the starter question.

The NFL record for receptions in a playoff game is 13. Four players share that record. Without using google or other similar search technology, name one of them.

Herman Moore?

Little hint. None of the four is a wide receiver.

Butter 11-16-2007 08:36 AM

Roger Craig?

Nope. But a great guess.

Also, just so you know, three of these guys are "Oh, yeah, I could see that" guys. Only one of the four is a "WTF, I would have never guessed that in a million years" guy.

rkmsuf 11-16-2007 08:43 AM

Anthony Munoz

Lorena 11-16-2007 08:47 AM

Marshall Faulk?

Pumpy Tudors 11-16-2007 08:52 AM

Since I've already put a guess in there, I'm gonna just look it up. I can't wait to be stunned.

Edit: Hahaha, albionmoonlight is exactly right. You could easily see it happening for three of the four guys, but the other one is a head scratcher, especially considering the team he played for.

MikeVic 11-16-2007 08:54 AM

Terrell Owens?

albionmoonlight 11-16-2007 08:56 AM

No right guesses so far.

Here's some more hints. These are the years and conferences in which the feat occured:

AFC Playoffs-1981
AFC Playoffs-1989
AFC Playoffs-1993
NFC Playoffs-2000 (this is the WTF guy)

MikeVic 11-16-2007 08:58 AM

Yancy Thigpen?

MikeVic 11-16-2007 08:59 AM

haha wait, you said none of the four is a WR.

WINNER!

http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/records...ayer/receiving

Kellen Winslow, AFC-D: San Diego vs. Miami, 1981 (OT)
Thurman Thomas, AFC-D: Buffalo vs. Cleveland, 1989
Shannon Sharpe, AFC-FR: Denver vs. L.A. Raiders, 1993
Chad Morton, NFC-D: New Orleans vs. Minnesota, 2000

ML is up.

MikeVic 11-16-2007 09:02 AM

edit: question over...

Chad Morton?? I always thought he was only on the Jets.

albionmoonlight 11-16-2007 09:03 AM

dola--

I was watching the Chad Morton game. Ricky Williams was out with injury, so Chad Morton was starting as running back for the Saints. The Vikings got way ahead, so they sat back in a deep zone for most of the second half. So Aaron Brooks just kept checking down to Chad Morton. A LOT. 13 times it turns out.

albionmoonlight 11-16-2007 09:04 AM

Actually, Chad Morton is still the all-time NFC playoffs single game receptions leader. That's some obscure-ass trivia right there.

MikeVic 11-16-2007 09:04 AM

Was the 2000 Vikings the team that lost to the Falcons?

Dangit, this was my first guess... ugh.

I guess you missed his time with the Redskins and Giants, too. :)

Besides Chad Morton being the leader, I'm also kind of shocked that Amp Lee wasn't very far behind with 11 receptions in a playoff game, although it happened six years before Morton. I mean, seriously, Amp Lee?

Also, why the hell did I guess Herman Moore? I could've come up with a better guess than that.

No, that was in 1998.

rkmsuf 11-16-2007 09:40 AM

I've been googling this, but I haven't had any luck yet.

albionmoonlight 11-16-2007 09:45 AM

ML is offline.

So anyone who wants to keep it going, go ahead. Remember that the question should have some link (however minor) to the previous question/answer.

MikeVic 11-16-2007 09:51 AM

I bet the answer to ML's question would've been Kerry Fraser.

Lorena 11-16-2007 09:55 AM

Alright, I'll give it a shot:

Who was the only player to play against the Baltimore Colts in their last game at Memorial Stadium and the Baltimore Ravens in their last game at Memorial Stadium?

larrymcg421 11-16-2007 09:56 AM

Scratch that...

Chad Morton

larrymcg421 11-16-2007 10:00 AM

Bruce Matthews?

MikeVic 11-16-2007 10:01 AM

That would've been my guess too larry.

MikeVic 11-16-2007 10:02 AM

But I'll guess Jerome Bettis since Mathews is taken.

BINGO!

Pumpy Tudors 11-16-2007 10:13 AM

Shit, I think Bruce Matthews also played against the St. Louis Cardinals in their last game at Busch Stadium, the Los Angeles Rams in their last game at Anaheim Stadium, the Carolina Panthers in their last game at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, the Dallas Texans in their last game at the Rubber Bowl, and the Vancouver Grizzlies in their last game at GM Place.

I remember him having to guard Big Country Bryant Reeves.

larrymcg421 11-16-2007 10:16 AM

Okay, what Miami Dolphins player has the record for most rushing yards in a postseason game during the Marino era (1983-99)?

I know that out of the Marino era, it happened recently... Travis Minor or something like that. The name is in my mind somewhere. But in the Marino era??

Umm... Larry Csonka?

Csonka retired in 1979.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Dan Marino trying to avoid sacks. But then again, he was slow as hell.

rkmsuf 11-16-2007 10:49 AM

Kareem Abdul Jabbar

either one

You say that like it makes a difference.

Sadly, the Grizzlies are my favorite NBA team. :(

Bobby Humphrey?

larrymcg421 11-16-2007 10:53 AM

Jabbar is #2 on the list and Humphrey is 7th. The Lakers Center didn't quite crack the Top 10.

albionmoonlight 11-16-2007 10:54 AM

Sammy Smith?
