Alternate Universe Football League

The Alternate Universe Football League is looking for GMs to help round out the roster of GMs.

AUFL is set to begin with the 1985 season in an "alternate universe" where the NFL agreed to accept four USFL franchises to settle the infamous $1 anti-trust suit (making a presumption that the NFL felt it would lose the case - which of course it essentially won with the $1 settlement).

The four USFL franchises added are the New Jersey Generals, Baltimore Stars, Birmingham Stallions and Memphis Showboats. The player pool is completely historical and built from scratch by the commish. It's made up of all 1985 NFL and USFL players (not just guys from the four merging teams), plus every player drafted in the 1985 NFL draft - all 12 rounds of it. This totaled up to 2463 players, meaning no fictional players (at least none I could find).

The plan is to simulate two or three stages per week of real time. I'm a veteran commish of several OOTP-based baseball leagues (I also have a hockey league).

We'll take all comers, be it FOF vet or rookie, all we're looking for is folks who will be committed, play fair and try to win.

Thanks for reading!

Joe (aka Legendsport)

Grab a team before they are gone.... Joe has been an outstanding commish for a OOTP league I play in and theirs no dought this league will also be ran very professional.

legendsport 11-24-2007 03:38 PM

I had an idea (or brain fart, depending on what you think of it). I might run the 1985 NCAA football season (and the ensuing campaigns as well) alongside the AUFL. I'd be using Haffner's 3-in-1 football to do it and it'd just be for a little extra immersion factor as you can "follow" future draftees while they're still in college.

I did a dynasty like that with the 1974 college football season over on the OOTP boards and was thinking about that and it occurred to me that it might be cool to stick something like that on the AUFL site as we play along.

We've now got 10 signees, so we're almost a third of the way to the magic number of 32.

(And thanks, BigDawg, for the kind words)

BigDawg 11-25-2007 02:33 AM

Nice, you mean I can follow Bary Sanders college carrer up to 89 when I draft him...hehehe

Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders.... OSU will RULE !!!!

BTW I have been on a preaty good roll of late... two FOF championships out of 4 leagues I am in. Made it to the WS in 2 of the last 3 seasons of Joe''s OOTP Batty league and now enter the WS in the CIBL ( OOTP ) league.

JoeRockhead 11-26-2007 08:25 PM

PM reply sent with teams of interest.
If Big Dawg is in I have to join!
Barry Sanders is coming my way sir!!!!

Thanks,
John

Sort of. I have reserved the Browns for you, but need you to email me at [email protected] so I can send you the password and other info for setup.

BTW - anyone else wanting to sign up can email me at that address to save a step vs sending a PM here.

Done, thanks.

Getting closer... I'm actually surprised at the lack of love for the NFC East. No Eagles, 'Skins or 'Boys fans out there?

legendsport 12-05-2007 01:03 PM

Dolphins are back on the market. We've got 23 GMs signed up, so there are nine slots left. The league will begin next week so this is pretty much the last chance to get in before opening kickoff.

RomaGoth 12-05-2007 01:29 PM

I will gladly take the Dolphins. I am new to this stuff, but I have been a Dolphins (& Steelers) fan since I was a wee lad. Can you let me know if Miami is mine?

Email me at commish @ simsportleagues.com so I can send you the info to get setup.

shbrehob 12-05-2007 07:12 PM

i'll take the Birmingham Stallions... i have already emailed you about this.

THanks

Firefly 12-06-2007 07:29 PM

I'd like Memphis, please, if it is still available. Already sent Commish e-mail, waiting for a response...

legendsport 12-07-2007 08:51 AM

Stallions, Showboats and Saints all taken (there's been a run on teams starting with 'S').

Only 5 teams left: the Eagles, Cowboys, Packers, Stars and Cardinals.

The Eagles still have Jaws, plus a very young Randall Cunningham. The Boys are entering their rebuilding era, but Tony Dorsett is still on the team (though they won't be getting Herschel since he's with the Generals). The Packers have Lofton, the Stars were the class of the USFL and theoretically the best of the four "new" teams, featuring Kelvin Bryant while the Cardinals.... well, they do have Neil Lomax.

maddmic 12-07-2007 09:39 PM

Sign me up for the Eagles. If they're gone, I'll take the Stars.

I e-mailed you.

legendsport 12-08-2007 07:21 PM

With the Stars now gone, the AFC is full. Two teams - Cowboys & Cardinals are left in the NFC...

legendsport 12-11-2007 03:09 PM

Cardinals are gone, but the Saints are back on the market (and the Cowboys are also still available).

legendsport 12-12-2007 03:57 PM

OK, the Cardinals are now gone, but the Dolphins are back on the market. This is the 2nd Miami GM to drop out and we haven't even played a snap yet (that happens Friday). Is there no one with the guts to stick it out with freakin' Dan Marino and a team that won the AFC in 1984?

Tom Kelly 12-14-2007 04:25 PM

If they're still available, I'd take the Packers...otherwise whoever is available.

You're all set. The league is probably full - waiting to hear back from a guy who asked for the Cowboys and there's a backup waiting as well.

legendsport 12-26-2007 07:12 AM

OK, we've had some guys sign up only to drop out a few days later (the Dolphins are on their third GM and we're in week 3 of the first preseason), so here's the current available list:

Colts
Packers
Cowboys

Please don't sign up unless you're willing to stick it out for a little bit.

Thanks for looking and as always, if you're interested, email me at commish-at-simsportleagues.com

freddylamar 12-27-2007 03:32 AM

Im interested in taking over any of those teams. Packers,Colts, and then the Boys.

I received your email and responded (you've got the Packers), if you don't get it, PM me here to let me know.

Thanks

legendsport 12-27-2007 06:34 AM

Packers and Cowboys are taken, only the Colts remain.

legendsport 01-05-2008 10:16 AM

Colts are still available. The final week of 1985 preseason is coming up and then it's on to the "real thing."

legendsport 01-10-2008 08:28 AM

Packers are back on the available list - the Colts are taken.

legendsport 01-14-2008 10:59 AM

Pack is taken.

AUFL College

In case anyone's interested, I'm running a college sim alongside AUFL using Haffner's 3-in-1 football. It's not MP or even single-player as I don't do anything with it except run sims to spit out results, but I've put together a few webpages with the poll, schedule/results and boxscores which I think is kind of cool. I wanted the AUFL guys to be able to "see" their future players in action.

You can check it out on the AUFL site: http://aufl.simsportleagues.com - the link's in the left-side menu.

AUFL is finally into the regular season and we've got to two games per week, with midweek stages on Monday & Thursday and game stages on Tuesday and Friday. After all the growing pains it's nice to finally get into the regular season.

Now if I can only find someone who knows php to help me make some player pages....
