Robotakons
I found this display of "Robotakons" in the foyer of a local Kroger's here in Ann Arbor. They are plastic robotic BattleMech looking clear guys for a buck out of a modern day gumball machine for a buck each. I really liked them, but when i do a search for "Robotakon" or "Robotakons" on google, nothing.
I didn;t get any more info, like the company that made them or anything, so if any of you see Robotakons in a store by the candy gumball machines, let me know if you can get any more info. Thanks! -Abe |
If they are someone similar to the "Homies" aka the gangbanger toy machine guys, I believe they may be produced by the company that makes Bratz.

Which Kroger did you go to? I used to work at the one on Stadium and Industrial. Good times.

I don't know the Ann Arbor area that well. It has a McDonald's in teh shopping center in front of it and that's the only fast food at the place. |

Ah, you're talking about the one up on Plymouth Road. Only remember it because we occasionally ate at that McDonald's and there's a nice toy store there that my older daughter was fond of (basically a Learning Express-type store). |

Oh, right. I went to that one a bunch of times, too. |
The best Kroger in Ann Arbor is the one where Stadium turns into Maple at the intersection with Jackson, right where the Zingerman's Roadhouse is nowadays.
Back when I was in law school (sometime betwene (97-00), they re-modeled it into a Flagship Kroger. Very nice. |

So close, but they were clear. they actually looked like real mechs from BattleTech. |
Went Back to that Kroger's Tonight. A few more pieces of info:
The vending machines are tended by a company named Folz The robotakons display has this brand name at the bottom, "The Amusement Factory" Made in China stamped on a Robotakon |
Looks like Coinstar purchased The Amusement Factory two years ago in 2k5.

Further research shows that Coinstar purchased Folz in 2k4. Going to Coinstar's website shows a link to Folz, which is still operating, but none to Amusement Factory.

Just saw these at a store near me and was kinda shocked to see them now for the life of me i cannot remember where the heck it was. :)
