Funny. Evil. Funnyevil.

Good stuff.. Just glad it didn't happen to me!

Maple Leafs 01-10-2008 03:58 PM

That's like a 9/10 on the "making various tech guys miserable and maybe getting them fired scale". Which is fine, except it's also about a 2/10 on the "funny" scale.

This is how it was discussed here at work. It's like taking this device to a sports bar, waiting till a last second shot, and then using it to turn off the TV. Funny.. wrong.. and if they catch you doing it, cause for grave bodily harm.

Maybe funny the first time they did it. Completely asshole-ish by the 3rd or 4th time.

The big difference is that once you miss that last-second shot live, there's no going back in time. With these presentations, couldn't these people just start over (or pick up where they left off) once things were working properly again?

The funny part, to me, is that none of them look at the power switch. They start fiddling with cables, jerking around with cords, etc.

Nice video of a guy doing this in europe during the World Cup, priceless yet sad :p

I think it was kind of funny on some of the random monitors throughout the show, or where people were just playing a game or something. But to do that to a guy making a big speech, and multiple times at that, was brutal. Not only does it interrupt and fluster him, but some poor tech dude probably got reamed the fuck out at the end of it all.

KWhit 01-10-2008 07:36 PM

That's not funny at all. I have no idea what Gizmodo is. Is it just a website? This would be like someone hacking their site and bringing it down.

Not funny, affects business, and companies could be significantly hurt by it - enough to bring suit against these idiots.

Maple Leafs 01-10-2008 08:03 PM

It has all the wit and humor of throwing rocks at the monitors from the distance, with the added bonus of getting innocent tech guys fired.

I can tell you, with the amount of money that has been spent here this year, prior years and such...I don't find this too funny.

Hmmmmmm, i need one of these for work. Tired of turning off 40 tvs per night

Hey, that's actually a really good use for that device. In fact, I think it would be hilarious to take that device into a store's electronics department, especially around Black Friday or Christmas. Imagine going into Best Buy and blacking out all their televisions. I've got to admit that I would start cracking up at whatever chaos ensued.

File under "Who didn't see this coming?"

Gizmodo has now been banned from CES

Except missing the last second shot is bad and all, but losing your job because someone thinks you incompetent that you didn't just try to turn the tv on because you didn't figure there'd be some jackass in the audience turning it off- there's a bit of a difference there. One is screwing with someone's profession while the other is entertainment (unless this is a bar and suddenly it becomes "that bar where idiots try to turn off the tv when good stuff is on" and loses business).

Does it really matter that they got banned.. they'll probably just reorganize under a new name and come back next year :)
